I have been working remotely through the Pandemic, over phone and video, and have found it achieves excellent results. Working online means that we can connect from the safety of your own space through Zoom/Skype or phone. I work in English or Spanish.
About me and my therapy practice
I will provide a safe space where you can freely explore your deepest fears and yearnings. I believe that the problems that impel us to seek help are gateways for us to discover something deeper and truer within ourselves. Your childhood and lifetime experiences make up a unique life journey that has taken you to this place where you feel that you could benefit from talking to someone. Maybe this marks the start of another journey, one which travels inwards into your own heart.
We all want healing, but I don’t think we get to heal in the way a broken bone is healed. The wounds we carry, particularly the earlier ones from our childhood, are not possible to heal. Nothing can change what happened. But what can change and heal is the relationship that we have with ourselves and with our own wounding. It can be a slow and gentle process where the main ingredients are trust and time.
I will be a guide who will be there to witness and reflect back who you are and who you will become. I see this as a great privilege, and this is true of all the clients I have worked with. Every one of us has an amazing and unique story to tell, and a unique path to travel.
Practice description
I have an integrative approach that takes inspiration from depth and archetypal psychology (Jung, Hillman) with a psychodynamic foundation. This simply means that, on one hand, we will explore your childhood and the experiences that have shaped you, and on the other, the potentiality of what needs to grow and come out of these experiences. We can look at your problems as gateways into your soul, or in other words, the authentic you.
It may be useful to contrast this approach with a more behavioural approach (CBT) where you would learn techniques and ways of thinking to cope and manage your symptoms in order to be more ‘effective’ in life. There is nothing wrong with this, but, while it can work well, it can miss what is brewing in the depths of your soul.
My approach will vary depending on who I am working with and what is happening in their lives. I like to use imagination, creativity, myth and stories during sessions, as a way of helping move through the rational mind into deeper layers of meaning. But above all types of approaches or techniques I offer an attuned, empathic and holding presence, that will listen attentively not only to what you say, but also to what is not expressed.
I trained for three years as an integrative transpersonal counsellor at the Re-vision training centre (www.re-vision.org.uk), and apart from my private practice I work for a mental health charity. I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and my work is fully insured and supervised.
“Healing isn’t about recovery; it’s about discovery. Discovering hope in hopelessness, discovering an answer where there doesn’t seem to be one, discovering that it’s not what happens that matters - it’s what you do with it.” Edith Eger
My first session
The most important factor in counselling is the relationship between the counsellor and client. So an introductory session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We can talk about what issues have brought you to therapy and what you would like to achieve.
While my regular session rate is £55 for 50 minutes, I offer a free 30-minute session to discuss your needs and to see if we can work well together.
If we agree to work together, then I will set you a weekly time slot for us to have safe, confidential sessions. A weekly slot is the best way to find the stability needed to make change.
