About me and my therapy practice
Life often doesn't flow the way we had planned or expected. Significant changes happen, we lose loved ones, we grieve, we may face difficult decisions, chronic illness, trauma, relationship struggles and pressures from work/family. The past 12+ months have also had a huge impact on the way we live.
You may feel overwhelmed or unable to cope with these challenging times and you may feel that you have to carry your burden in silence. This can be a very lonely place especially as many of us feel as though we ‘should’ be able to manage whatever life throws our way.
Finding a safe place to talk, where you can express your innermost thoughts and feelings without the worry of upsetting or offending others, can really make a difference and help you to make sense of what is happening in your life.
I am a fully qualified and insured counsellor/psychotherapist having gained an MA(Distinction) in Clinical Counselling from the University of Chester. I am a registered member of the BACP and BICA (the British Infertility Counselling Association).
In addition to offering general counselling I have a specialist interest in supporting parents after miscarriage, stillbirth, TFMR, complications during pregnancy, birth trauma and neonatal loss.
As well as my private practice, I work in a fertility clinic, helping clients through the fertility journey of receiving donor sperm, eggs or embryos and dealing with loss and I welcome private clients, who are seeking infertility counselling support.
Practice description
HOW I WORK
There are many different approaches to therapy each with a slightly different perspective. My work with every client is completely different since it is guided by your unique needs; there is no 'one size fits all'. I practice integratively, drawing on techniques from a variety of therapeutic models, always tailoring my approach to suit you and your needs.
I am trained from a person-centred perspective which means I am committed to building a genuine, respectful and trusting relationship with you. I will offer you a calm, unbiased, non-judgemental space for you to freely express yourself and talk openly and honestly without the fear of being judged or offending anyone. I will support you as you explore and understand your feelings and anxieties, and gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your needs. Working together we can help you gain perspective, find coping strategies and different ways which will benefit you in the long term and help you to move forwards in your life.
CURRENT RESTRICTIONS
Due to Covid-19 restrictions I am currently offering online or telephone sessions only. I hope to return to face to face in due course in Altrincham, Cheshire as well as continuing with online and telephone clients across the UK.
My first session
INITIAL CONSULTATION
I offer an initial 20 minute consultation, free of charge, either by telephone or zoom to discuss your reasons for accessing counselling, what you hope to achieve and answer any questions you may have. This will help us to begin to get to know one another and decide if we mutually feel we could work together.
FIRST SESSION
You can begin to tell me your story at a pace that feels comfortable to you. This is a chance for me to understand what difficulties life is presenting you with, what you would like to achieve through therapy and your expectations.
I am very aware that the decision to access therapy can be daunting and you may well feel anxious and uncertain of what lies ahead. Please don't be. I am a very warm, personable, real talking individual; someone who is compassionate and deeply accepting of others. Please be assured that I am committed to making you feel at ease, relaxed and listened to from the very beginning.
