About me and my therapy practice
Talking therapy can help us to understand our experiences, and the feelings, thoughts and behaviours that arise from having those experiences. My own experience of talking therapy during times of questioning and crisis, and the relationship formed between my therapist and I, effected personal change and growth. These experiences led to a desire to become a counsellor, and have significantly influenced how I work with my clients.
I consider it a privilege to be chosen to work with you as you explore the things in life that may be troubling you or giving you concern. This exploration will take place within a therapeutic relationship with me, a qualified, experienced and independent counsellor, in an environment that is confidential, non-judgemental, safe, collaborative and curious. Under these conditions and within this relationship, your exploration may lead you to find within yourself answers, healing, meaning and purpose that may lead to you living a more content and fulfilled life.
Practice description
I primarily work within the Humanistic Approach which consists of Existential, Gestalt and Person Centred therapies. These are underpinned by the Phenomenological Approach are are integrated into one approach.
Other therapies or techniques I may bring into our therapy sessions are:
Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy.
These further therapies will be offered to you in a pluralistic manner. This means that the therapies and techniques I offer are because I have considered your therapeutic needs and the benefits of each therapy and technique to meet your needs.
I have a thriving private practice in Gosport that is currently being commisioned by a local schools academy trust to offer counselling to three secondary schools.
I formally worked for an NHS Youth Counselling Service and am experienced in working with children and young people who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and other Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs as well as those who are classed as Looked After Children (LAC).
I have specialist drug and alcohol training that enabled me to work as a counsellor with those affected by drug and alcohol use, whether they were the user, family member or friend.
My counselling experience has become varied and diverse and has enabled me to create a general practice while specialising in working with young people.
