About me and my therapy practice

Hello my name is Shelley, my approach as a counsellor is to enable you to understand how long standing conflicts from the past, are having an impact on your current life today. By working together you will become more self aware and have a better insight about certain patterns of behaviour which are having a negative impact. Issues you are struggling with may have early roots in childhood. By exploring these experiences you will begin to understand how they are impacting on your life, with personal relationships, family, colleagues at work and friends. Once you gain a better awareness you can make adjustments and change the way you think and feel.

Practice description

As a psychodynamic psychotherapist my practice is based on psychoanalytical principles which means I listen to your current issues whilst also understanding how your past has influenced your current life.

What is important is that you have a confidential and non - judgemental space to be listened too, perhaps for the very first time. To enable you to move forward it is important that we build trust, enabling the therapeutic relationship to develop.

My first session

The initial session (90) mins will be an assessment either face to face or via zoom / phone. This is an opportunity for you to discuss the issues which have brought you to counselling, exploring your early childhood experiences, family dynamics, experiences at school and other significant relationships. Towards the end of the session we can come to a mutual agreement for regular counselling sessions or a referral to another service. Online or phone sessions are particularly helpful to those who prefer to be in their own environment.
