About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist experienced in working with a wide range of presenting issues including:
* Anxiety
* Depression/low mood
* Low self-esteem
* Self-harm
* Loss i.e bereavement, relationship issues, redundancy, of ‘self’
* Feelings of being overwhelmed or ‘stuck’.
I provide a safe, confidential and neutral space for you to talk and explore whatever is troubling you. We can work either online and/or face to face in my practice based in Guildford.
Practice description
You may be struggling with a specific life event such as a relationship breakdown, job loss or bereavement or you may not be able to pinpoint what is wrong, but you know you do not feel like ‘yourself’.
Life and its inevitable challenges can have a way of creeping up on you and it maybe you have been aware that you are not coping as well as you might, but you are not sure where to start. Perhaps you recognise that negative thoughts and feelings are affecting your ability to enjoy or cope with daily life. Counselling can provide the time and space to focus on your thoughts and feelings in a non-judgemental environment.
My approach is integrative, I draw on different models to help you understand yourself better - I will not advise you but listen and reflect with acceptance and understanding. We may explore your values and beliefs, work together to understand why you feel the way you do, focussing in on what you do want and perhaps let go of thoughts which are holding you back. However, I believe for therapy to be effective; it is important that you feel comfortable to talk freely with me, make sense of your feelings and perhaps come to an understanding of how you can move forward in life. It can be difficult to be open with our friends or family about our innermost thoughts or worries, as we may feel that we do not want to burden or worry them.
My aim is to support you and to encourage your personal growth. I see clients both face to face and online, alongside working as a counselling manager at a mental health charity; and am experienced in supporting counselling trainees.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute consultation over the phone or on Zoom. This initial session gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and more importantly to see if you would feel comfortable working with me. We can discuss your initial reasons for seeking counselling and any thoughts and expectations you may have. If you feel that you would like to proceed, we can then set a day and time for us to meet on a weekly basis. We can work at your pace, either short or long term.
At our first counselling session together, I will gather relevant background information from you and we will also go through the therapeutic contract which I will send in advance. We will agree together how and when we will meet for sessions.
