About me and my therapy practice

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor with a psychodynamic approach, and a BPC accredited DIT practitioner (Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy). I am based in South Birmingham and offer counselling for individuals (adults) in person and online, open-ended or short-term.

I find that people seek counselling for a number of reasons. They might be facing difficult life issues, relationship problems, or feel stuck. Clients often find that being heard in a safe, confidential space alleviates distress, clarifies feelings and experiences, and helps them figure out the changes they want to make and move forward in life.

Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) is a short-term psychodynamic therapy (16 sessions). Designed for individuals suffering with symptoms of depression and/or anxiety, this therapy has a strong evidence base for being effective. It is currently recommended for depression in the NHS as an alternative to CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) or antidepressants.

Open-ended and long-term counselling allows more time and space to explore your past, to process loss or trauma, and to allow you to grow as a person. It involves looking at how you relate to yourself, how you relate to others, and/or how you relate to your past. I will support you to make important changes in these areas of your life. Making such changes can be challenging, but it can also help you become more resilient and build relationships that are more meaningful to you. I will work to help you formulate your own aims, support your development, and enhance your wellbeing.

Practice description

I am based in South Birmingham and see clients on a weekly basis (in person and online). The people I work with may suffer from symptoms of depression, anxiety or past trauma. They may face challenging life situations, experience difficulties in their relationships, or have concerns about self and identity. I am committed to working with people from different backgrounds, and to practicing cultural humility and sensitivity.

My orientation is psychodynamic. This gives priority to building a supportive relationship with you, and helping you reflect on parts of your inner self and experience that may require fuller understanding and acknowledgement. I also work with counselling trainees to support their personal and professional development.

My first session

I would normally invite you to a brief conversation (free of charge) on the phone to begin with, so you can ask me any questions. You can then decide if you wish to proceed to the next step and come to an initial assessment session.

The initial assessment session lasts 50 minutes and is charged at my current rate. Its purpose is to give us both an opportunity to understand what brings you here, if counselling with me is the best way forward, and to arrive at some decisions as to what may be of help to you. We can also consider if you want time-limed therapy (DIT) or open-ended.
