About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Gina Savory from StressCatcher. As a British-trained experienced (since 2013) Integrative Counsellor with a background in Clinical Psychology, I help people with issues with depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, personality disorders, abuse and traumas.
I aim to help my clients better understand themselves so they can live their lives empowered by their self-awareness and regain control over their own lives.
I have also worked as a Psychologist (Clinical and Research) for over 13 years. I have had clinical experience in various settings, including different NHS Mental Health Services, Wellbeing Services and private practice abroad and in the UK.
I offer a confidential, non-judgmental, empathic space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings. I aim to help you better understand yourself so you can make the changes you want to see in your life. I work collaboratively with my clients, incorporating different approaches and techniques according to each individual’s needs. Predominantly I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Techniques (if appropriate), a Person-Centred Approach and a supportive Psychodynamic understanding of where my client is on the path of their life.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you want to learn more about how I could help you.
Practice description
Stresscatcher is a counselling service that provides relational integrative counselling to all adults who need it.
Integrative counselling is a form of counselling that combines three types of counselling: Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic in balanced and perfect harmony.
This counselling is also relational counselling. Meaning that our relationship within the counselling is very important and essential for the development of the issues that bring you into counselling.
Hopefully learning how to relate in this new way will help with some reparation of the difficulties that bring you into counselling.
I believe as Carl Rogers suggests that the counsellor should have unconditional positive regard for his client, be authentic and empathic. I also agree with Bowlby when he suggests that we develop relationships from early on in our lives and that these determine how we relate later on in our lives too.
When people start counselling it is very frequent because of feeling anxiety or depression, so CBT strategies are very helpful to understand how our thoughts, feelings and behaviours all link together.
When working with traumatised people, I believe it is important to feel safe first in yourself and in your environment. I use CBT strategies for that and grounding techniques. It is also important to make a narrative of the trauma and to be able to mourn for what could have been. Eventually, it is important to look into the future and create a new reality past that trauma. In summary that is how I work with Herman’s three-stage trauma model proposes.
My first session
In my first session, we discuss the reasons that have brought you to counselling, what a contract with me would look like, the importance of confidentiality and risk management.
I am offering a 30-minute free phone call before your first paid session, so we can get to know each other a little bit and find out if we could work together.
I usually offer the same slot that you would like to carry out afterwards.
