Availability
I work Monday through to Friday. I am currently working mostly online (Zoom) due to feedback from clients regarding travelling and greater flexibility. Please feel free to contact me to discuss this if you have any questions about how therapy via 'the screen' can be helpful. I also have some availability for face to face work
About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Debbie, a relational therapist working with adults, couples and young people, and have been engaged in therapeutic work since 1999. I have worked online during lockdowns and prior to that for clients who have not been able, or prefer not, to travel. I currently work with some clients living in a number of different countries, so online makes these connections possible.
I started working therapeutically with children who had suffered complex trauma. It was working alongside these incredible children that led me to understand the significance of relationships in human development, personality structure and the healing process.
I have worked in and led organisations as a clinical lead, senior therapist, consultant, trainer and supervisor. My work has taken place in children's homes, universities and social services, as well as in private practice. An important aspect of my work is my own personal therapy, supervision and on going training/development; I consider the therapists own work to be crucial...
Making the decision and then the process of finding a therapist, is a very personal process. My aim is to create a safe and confidential space where clients are supported in expressing their deepest feelings, fears and experiences, without fear of judgement or shaming. Together we can explore experiences, find ways to accept and manage circumstances that might not be possible to change, and where helpful, make changes that will serve you better.
Practice description
I trained as a Relational Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist.
TA (transactional analysis) is a model for understanding personalities, relationships and how we communicate with and respond to the world. Describing myself as Relational means that I consider our therapeutic relationship to be the most important aspect of the work.
Sessions last for 50 minutes. I see clients at the same time weekly, for open ended, mid to long term psychotherapy as well as for short term counselling (usually up to 12 sessions). We can discuss which approach might be most helpful for you.
.
My first session
I offer an initial twenty minute telephone or zoom consultation free of charge to see if we should work together; I will also email you a 'client information sheet'. As well as saying a little bit about what to expect, it includes my fees, payment and cancellation processes.
Following this, if we have agreed that therapy and my approach may be helpful, we will arrange a regular date and time to meet.
During the first session we will start to 'contract' for the work. Contracting is considered an important aspect of TA as it acknowledges both of our participation/responsibilities and encourages ongoing reflection of the purpose, aim and goals of our work together. It also involves planning the ending when the time feels right.
