Availability
I am available on Wednesdays: I see couples and individuals in person in the evening in a psychotherapy centre in Heaton Moor and individuals online during the daytime.
I currently have availability for new clients.
Individual counselling: £60 per 50-minute session.
Couple counselling: £75 per 60-minute session.
A note on accessibility: my counselling room is on the ground floor. There is a shallow step to enter the building which can be navigated in a wheelchair. Unfortunately there are no accessible toilets.
About me and my therapy practice
Are you and your partner arguing all the time, struggling to communicate, or feeling disconnected? Maybe there’s been an affair or life events challenging your relationship? I will listen with empathy and without judgement and help you navigate a way forward, focusing on your priorities for your relationship – rebuilding trust, improving communication, facing challenges, increasing your intimacy or perhaps working out how to go your separate ways.
I also work one-to-one with adults where we can explore what's troubling you – trauma or abuse, stress or anxiety, low mood, not feeling good enough, loss, menopause, parenting...
I offer compassion, warmth and humour to help you find your way through whatever you are dealing with and feel better and more able to cope.
I see individuals in person or remotely (online video or telephone) but I only see couples in person, as in my experience couple therapy is informed and enriched by an understanding of your (whole) body language and non-verbal communication.
I qualified with a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Keele University. Since then I have completed initial and advanced couple counselling training (amongst many other courses) and have achieved BACP accreditation.
I currently work as a counsellor for a counselling charity in south Manchester (working with couples and individual adults) and for the NHS (working with individual adults who have experienced sexual abuse or assault).
Practice description
My therapy focuses on your needs, with a person-centred approach at heart. We will explore the difficulties that you are facing and work collaboratively together to find ways through.
With couples I work in an integrative way, using a range of approaches to help you achieve your aims for your relationship. For example, we may practise communication exercises or identify and explore patterns in your relationship, where they've come from, how they've got stuck and how to change them.
I have training and experience in working with trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and this is an area of specialism for me. I work in a trauma-informed way and I use Judith Herman's three-stage approach to trauma recovery: safety and empowerment, retelling and mourning, and reclaiming the future.
Sometimes trauma gets 'stuck' in body; I can offer yoga practices such as breathing exercises, if you’d like that, as I'm also a qualified, experienced and fully insured yoga teacher. These practices are also helpful for anxiety.
My first session
At your first counselling session, I will invite you to tell me about your current difficulties and what you would like from your counselling. We will discuss and agree how we are going to work together and I will take down some details about you which I will store securely.
We will usually meet weekly after that and we will regularly review progress together and adjust our work as necessary to help you meet your aims for counselling.
