About me and my therapy practice
I offer counselling and psychotherapy from an integrative approach tailored to your needs. I provide a safe, confidential place to overcome difficult emotional issues.
My approach is one of compassionate therapy where we can work together to identify past unhelpful beliefs and unconscious biases which may interfere with the challenges of every day life.
I specialise in treating depression and anxiety disorders which underpin many stress related conditions including any past or present trauma which you may not have fully understood or recovered from. Alternatively you may even want the sessions for counselling to unravel and off-load confusing day to day conflicts or irritations where you feel stuck and frustrated with life.
I have worked in voluntary sectors helping homeless young people and those struggling with mental health issues. My private practice is focussed more to the challenges of people struggling with anxiety and depression and to difficulties which affect older people.
I am a Counsellor and an accredited Clinical hypnotherapist with the Governing body British society of Clinical Hypnosis trained in the following psychotherapeutic techniques:
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)
Clinical Hypnotherapy
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
Mindfulness.
Practice description
I practice a model of evidence based therapy in addressing the aspects of unhelpful thinking and behavioural patterns responsible for persistent difficulties. A presenting difficulty can comprise of complex aspects of the problem itself, including the interpretation of the experience together with the feelings, actions and sensations connected to the difficulty.
With this in mind I believe each person has their own inner resources to overcome challenges and improve their quality of life where they can develop resilience and reach their full potential.
This integrative approach to therapy can offer the support and build the resilience to help you make changes that are important to you.
My first session
The first session will be mainly about why you have come for counselling and talk about the struggles you experience and how they affect your day to day life.
Perhaps you are aware of the cause of the difficulty or perhaps you keep finding yourself back in a similar unsatisfactory situation and want to understand why. Either way we can explore the issues together and identify a way forward.
There will be time to ask questions about the therapy process including a suitable time for sessions, payment details, holidays and whether you are looking for short or long term therapy. It is an opportunity to see if we can work together and discuss if counselling is the best way forward for you.
This sessions is ninety minutes, follow on session are sixty minutes and it is your time to talk about what is important for you to discuss and what you want to achieve. At this stage you may prefer to go home and reflect on your experience before you take the decision to proceed.
