Availability
Currently, I offer both online and in-person sessions in the Rhyl area. Please note that, effective from 28th April, my in-person sessions will be held in the Prestatyn area. I offer appointments on Thursdays until 7 pm and Fridays until 5 pm, with weekend appointments available upon request and subject to availability. I also provide an initial 20-minute consultation at no charge, which serves as an opportunity for us to discuss our working relationship and ensure it aligns with your needs.
About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative counsellor based in North Wales, providing support to children (aged 3+), young people, and adults. My approach offers a collaborative and trusting environment where we can explore life's challenges and work together towards a more fulfilling future.
With over six years of experience, I have worked with a wide range of clients, particularly those dealing with trauma, anxiety, low mood, attachment issues, identity concerns, and family-related challenges. I have specialized training in trauma-informed care, ensuring that my practice is sensitive and responsive to the unique needs of each individual. My experience also includes working with adults facing addiction as a Therapeutic Intervention Worker and collaborating with mental health organizations such as Mind and Parabl, as well as supporting employees through the iCan project.
As many issues are interconnected, I have developed extensive experience in addressing the complex nature of trauma and its impact on mental health. I am confident in my ability to offer a high standard of support tailored to your individual needs.
However I am not the expert, you are. Together we can explore, challenge, and overcome the hurdles life has developed along the way for us to get to the finish line, one hurdle at a time. With your willingness to engage with life’s difficulties and developed trust within our sessions, together we will grasp a way of navigating through your life events, and un-do these knots in order to create a new pathway of discovery.
Metaphorically speaking consider this…Therapy is like finding a pearl of wisdom in your shell, and that change begins from within. Alongside working together, I can ensure that what I can offer you as a counsellor, will enable sustainable changes in your life to start living, not just exist.
Change is always possible and requires you to take that first step, and I will look forward to greeting you on the other side.
Thank you.
Practice description
My journey in counselling began with my initial training in 2018, where I qualified in Person-Centred practice. I then pursued a Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2019 to deepen my understanding and expand my knowledge. To further enhance the breadth of my therapeutic expertise, I completed training in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in 2022 and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) in 2024. These additional qualifications allow me to offer a diverse and multi-faceted approach to therapy for my clients. Please note that my EMDR training is currently applicable only to adult clients.
While the Person-Centred approach remains the foundation of my practice, I incorporate key elements of this approach—such as empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard—into every therapeutic relationship. At the same time, I am able to integrate cognitive structures to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, empowering you to achieve your goals in therapy. Each session is led by you, and you have the flexibility to choose which therapeutic modality resonates most with you at any given time.
In addition to my core modalities, I am trained in other therapeutic techniques, including REWIND, which is particularly effective for treating PTSD symptoms, and mindfulness-based approaches to foster present-moment awareness and well-being.
I also incorporate creative techniques into my work, using imagery, metaphors, and analogies to help simplify complex issues and create meaningful insights. This approach is designed to provide you with a variety of therapeutic tools to best support your individual needs.
My first session
In our first session, we will begin by exploring a brief summary of the issues that brought you to counselling, which we will initially discuss during the consultation call. Following this, I will send you my agreement information for review and signature before our counselling sessions commence.
The first session is designed to establish a sense of safety and clarity in our working relationship. We will work together to ensure open communication, addressing any concerns you may have to help alleviate any anxieties about the process. I will take notes during our sessions to help guide our work together. My goal is to collaboratively explore your therapeutic goals and create a realistic, sustainable plan for achieving them, considering all life factors and circumstances.
I have accumulated over 450 hours of experience working with children aged 3 and above, with a particular focus on supporting children who have experienced sexual trauma. My work with children often involves exploring a range of mental, behavioural, and developmental needs, including learning difficulties, ASD, and ADHD symptoms.
Therapy with children looks different than with adults. I use a variety of play materials to provide a safe, therapeutic space where children can express their thoughts and feelings. Goal-setting is tailored to the child's developmental stage and is achieved using age-appropriate methods.
My primary goal is to create a comfortable and safe environment for children where their voice is heard and respected. Please note that work with children will be conducted face-to-face, and additional information will be provided during the consultation call with the child's parent or guardian (depending on age).
