About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist (Dip.Co), providing a non-judgmental and empathetic service to support clients to get to where they want to be.
My model of counselling is integrative, drawing on components from Psychodynamic Theory and Humanistic Theory. I am trained and experienced in working with both adults and young people. I particularly specialise in bereavement, anxiety and preparing clients for the loss of a loved one. I offer online (zoom) and telephone counselling, on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Choosing the right counsellor for you is important on the effectiveness of therapy, therefore I offer a free 30 minute telephone consultation so I can assess your needs and you can see how you feel talking to me. Being a registered member of the BACP (00924555) I ensure that my clients are the centre of our work and we work together to get to where you want to be.
My experience spans over 18 years working within the mental well-being field. For 7 years I was employed by CXK Ltd, working with young people aged between 12 and 19 on a one-to-one basis offering Emotional Support Sessions in a variety of Kent based schools. The experience of working with this age group has enabled me to become specialised in working with young people that self-harm.
For over 6 years I worked in a voluntary capacity offering Counselling to Carers through a local carers agency in London. Within this role I specialised in the areas of bereavement, anxiety, identity change and preparing for the loss of a loved one.
Currently I work with a variety of private clients offering online and telephone therapy following obtaining my Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I work with a range of clients who present with different issues ranging from anxiety, anger, relationship breakdown, stress and many more.
I hold a Level 6 qualification in counselling and have completed many short courses to develop my skills.
Practice description
The combination of my own life experiences and my work life have given me a wealth of experience that has developed my understanding of how individuals may feel in the world we live in. I believe we are the experts of our own lives but sometimes we allow past events or influences of our environments to alter our true self. I offer a safe environment to provide a listening ear and to empower you to explore your inner self and to encourage you to get to where you want to be.
I believe we are all experts in our own lives, my role is to facilitate the exploration of your feelings and to support you in working towards any changes that you have decided you would like to make. I understand that you may not know what support you need, what changes you want to happen or why you are feeling the way you do. My role is to listen and help you understand why you have those questions and if possible, help you answer them. Therapy is not a quick fix however I would like to think that the work I do would allow you for 50 minutes each week to feel heard in the time you are with me and feel empowered and supported to face the week ahead.
My first session
Initially, I offer a free 30 minute telephone consultation. During this consultation I would complete a brief assessment of your needs to give me an idea of how I might begin to support you and to ensure I am the right therapist for you in line with my own competencies. This consultation allows you to talk to me about therapy and for you to have a think about how comfortable you felt talking to me. After this consultation I would send over the contract for you to look at and then it would be for you to let me know if you would like to proceed with therapy. Our regular session would be accessible via a zoom meeting or by me calling you and it would be at a set time each week.
