About me and my therapy practice
On the shores of Rutland Water, holding a space for you. Nestled in nature while overlooking the water, I offer a welcoming, retreat-like therapeutic space to connect with both your feelings and nature.
Here, on Rutland Water, my therapeutic goal is to make counselling less scary and not something that’s reserved for a crisis (though I do that too). I believe that emotional wellness is a maintenance thing, think of it as a work-out for your mind. I pride myself on my fresh, unstuffy, contemporary and flexible approach to counselling. I believe counselling should fit into your lifestyle however it works best for you. Just do what you can - it’s up to you – short or long-term, little and often, or once a month or so, you choose.
Practice description
My person-centred approach means I won’t set the agenda, give you advice or tell you what to do. Instead, I will create a safe, empathic and compassionate space for you to talk about what’s troubling you and nurture your emotional wellbeing. Working with me will help you feel less troubled by the stuff that keeps you awake at night, and see emotional wellness as a part of everyday mental maintenance, intrinsic to being able to live the life you want.
I make counselling a helpful conversation with a qualified person, who’s real and gets it. My fresh, unstuffy, contemporary and flexible approach fits into your lifestyle; however that works best for you.
Some of life’s best conversations happen close to nature, and I believe that your surroundings can impact how you feel, so I've created thoughtful spaces to enhance your therapeutic experience. The Listening Space is an informal, welcoming and contemplative space. It’s retreat-like feel is thoughtfully designed, created with you in mind. An away from it all, restorative space.
Open Space therapy combines connecting with your feelings and connecting with nature, taken at your pace around Hambleton Peninsula with places to pause and reflect along the way.

If you’re on this page you’ve taken the first and most difficult step. You're now on the way to emotional wellness and living the life you want. Counselling can form part of that journey, empowering you to restore balance to your life.
All counselling journeys start with a Pre-therapy Assessment, not as scary as it sounds. An informal in-person conversation to talk about what you want to get from counselling, and to make sure this is the right time for you, and The Rutland Counsellor is the right fit.
