About me and my therapy practice

My name is Beibei Mu. I am an English and Mandarin Chinese speaking psychotherapeutic counsellor based in London, registered with BACP and accredited by UKCP. I offer face-to-face counselling at my private practice in East London, as well as online counselling via Zoom to English and Mandarin speakers based anywhere in the world.

The soul has a key place in my work. Together we will make meaning of your suffering, pain and wounding as the soul’s calling for attention, rather than as a problem or fault to be fixed. When words are not enough to express feelings and emotions, and depending on your needs and preferences, I integrate soulful approaches such as imagery, visualisations, embodiment, fairy tales and dream exploration in our therapeutic work.

I hold an awareness of differences and diversity, recognising how one’s cultural context and experience can shape one’s life. I believe that many psychological issues are not only individual, but also a result of the collective cultural environment we live in. The question of ‘who am I?’ is often dependent on ‘who am I culturally?’. We can explore how the wider context of the outside word is affecting your inner world.

I keep a balance between supporting and challenging you, and tailor my approach to suit your needs and draw from a range of disciplines and theoretical knowledge. My work is influenced by the schools of transpersonal, Jungian, psychodynamic and gestalt.

Practice description

I grew up in Xi’an, the ancient capital of China and moved to the UK in my adolescent years. My secondary life passion of travel led me to travelling and living abroad in many countries and cultures, and these rich experiences gave me deep understanding of what it means to live in-between languages and cultures, and to relate sensitively with clients coming from diverse backgrounds.

My career started in the financial services and I’ve also worked in the charitable sector, managing projects in the fields of arts, culture, health and wellbeing. My personal experience with the healing effects of counselling and my interests in psychology, spirituality and mental health brought me to my decision to train as a counsellor.

In the past, I volunteered as a helpline counsellor at the charity The Mix for young people in their 20s. I also worked as a counsellor at Re-Vision’s Low Cost Counselling Service in North London.

Besides helping people through my counselling work, I love doing yoga, going to the cinema, and enjoy reading a book on a rainy day.

My first session

To get a sense of what it might be like to work together, I offer a free 20-minute consultation over the phone for us to find out about each other and to see if we could work well together.

When you first contact me, please indicate if you would like a 20-minute consultation and your availability in your message, and l will get back to you as soon as possible.

After the initial consultation, and if we decide to work together, we’ll meet for our first counselling session. I will be interested to know more about what brings you to counselling, and what you’re hoping from it and it is also an opportunity for us to discuss any questions you might have.

Once we begin our work together, we will establish a counselling contract that will honour the nature of the sessions and the boundaries that we each will observe — around confidentiality, holidays, cancellations, payment and timekeeping.
