About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel uncertain about who you are and what you want from life? Perhaps this is a result of a “milestone” birthday, retirement, redundancy or bereavement. Are you scared of sleepwalking through life - do you want to start living, not just existing? Does not feeling good enough hold you back? Do you make one small mistake and suddenly that inner critical voice spirals out of control, saying you are useless or worthless?
I help people who are going through periods of uncertainty to figure out who they are and what they want, so they can create a fulfilling life. I help people to stop giving themselves such a hard time and feel comfortable in their own skin. I help people to accept themselves and feel more confident.
Practice description
It can be daunting or even scary to start therapy, especially if you have never done it before. My clients find me warm, open and friendly, easy to talk to and gentle in my approach. I provide a safe, confidential space for you to open up, take the time to explore who you are and what you want from life. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly, child-free positive, and welcome diversity and difference. I work one-to-one with adults (I do not work with young people, families or couples) either in-person in Sunderland city centre, or online via Zoom.
Therapy changed my life and now I want to help you to change yours – because I’ve been where you are, struggling to feel good enough, plagued by a critical voice that gave me such a hard time. Several times through my life I have questioned who I am and what I want out of life. I’ve learned to manage repeated episodes of anxiety and depression, and have a toolkit of useful techniques from these experiences. As a result of my experiences, I became a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor so I could help others. I am passionate about helping people to stop just existing and start really living. You ARE good enough. Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be great – and neither do you.
“The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.” Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
My first session
Sessions normally last one full hour and cost £55. A small number of concessionary places may be available and I am open to arranging sessions of longer or shorter length. Payment is required at least 24 hours in advance of sessions, by bank transfer, in order to secure your appointment. 24 hours’ notice is required for cancellations otherwise the fee will still be payable.
My working hours are usually 1.30-6.30pm Tuesday and Wednesday (although I am open to morning appointments on request).
Contact
I would prefer initial contact to be by email, to arrange a time that is convenient for both of us for the initial discussion and how you would like this to take place (phone, Zoom, text or email).
