About me and my therapy practice
There are times when life is difficult. Perhaps you feel anxious, low, vulnerable, distressed or in despair. I offer a warm and genuine space to explore what could feel too confusing or overwhelming to do so alone, supporting you in taking steps to feel better.
How counselling works
I work with individuals to address mental and emotional struggles which can stem from a range of experiences such as past and present life challenges, trauma, loss, change and transitions, family and relationship issues. Or, maybe it’s hard to know why you feel like this or others have encouraged you to seek help. My hope would be that we can form a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe and held enough for exploration which will have a real impact on change in your life and allow you to feel some release from any distress you are experiencing.
Therapy can be what you need it to be, it’s individual and sometimes to have a space to talk is enough. Whether you are looking to develop self-awareness and growth or wanting to explore the distress you are experiencing, counselling can be a place for you to look in depth at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours or to even say what has felt the unsayable in a safe and supportive space. Together we will try to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and, with this understanding, hope to move towards greater wellbeing. Be this by, for example, changing repetitive patterns of thinking or behaviour, exploring a more authentic way of being with yourself and others, developing healthier coping mechanisms or cultivating acceptance and compassion in place of judgment.
Practice description
About me
My approach is integrative and humanistic and is founded on empathy and compassion. Integrative draws on therapeutic approaches to fit your needs. Humanistic comes from the idea that, through self awareness, individuals have the potential for personal growth and, with the right support, can reach their full potential. As well as my private practice, where I work with adults and young people, I currently work as a counsellor for a charity which supports 10-25 year olds, I am experienced in working for educational settings and, in addition to my adult training, I have a qualification in counselling children and young people. I also work for a charity supporting perinatal women and have extensive experience in all aspects of perinatal support, including abortion, conception, infertility, pregnancy, miscarriage and baby loss, birth trauma, postnatal depression and postnatal / postpartum support.
My background is Nursing, which I feel has strengthened my ability to form therapeutic relationships based on compassion and a little humour.

My first session
I work in Bath city centre and online.
I offer a free 20 minute online or telephone call to meet each other and briefly discuss how you are struggling in order to make sure that we seem like a good fit to work with each other.
For young people this can include a parent / guardian and the young person being referred if they are not the referrer. I will also be able to explain how I work with young people, especially around confidentiality.
In the first session of counselling I will explain about how I work and ask you questions about what brings you here and how you are struggling. It may also be helpful for me to gain some insight into your past. Together we will look at where we would focus and what you would like to gain from the counselling. It is also an opportunity for us to get a greater sense of whether it feels right for us to work together.
Sessions are usually weekly and are 50 minutes long.
