About me and my therapy practice
Do you need help working through challenges in your life, like health, work, parenting, relationship issues, or trauma? Struggling with the emotional impact of dealing with physical health problems and invisible illness? Need some time and space to explore current or past trauma?
I am an empathic, warm, experienced counsellor. I offer a safe, understanding space with no judgement, where we explore together what is going on for you and what positive changes you want to make.
I can work with a wide range of issues, on a short or long term basis. I work face to face, online or over the phone.
I work in a person centred way, which means we work at your pace on the issues you want to bring. I won't tell you what to do because I consider you to be the expert on yourself as an individual, but I will help you to work out the right strategies and ways forward for you. I am able to draw on the depth and breadth of my experience to find a smooth journey through therapy for you, using many different techniques.
I offer in person work from a counselling room at the Brackenwood Community Association in Roundhay, Leeds, LS8. There is unfortunately a flight of stairs to this room, but please let me know if this would be a problem so that we can arrange something else which is accessible to you.
Practice description
I specialise in working with people with chronic health conditions and disabilities and I have personal experience in this area. I have a genuine understanding of the emotional impact of dealing with physical health problems, disability, invisible illness and chronic pain. I can help with issues like coming to terms with a diagnosis, dealing with the medical system, frustration and grief about physical limitations, plus the impact on your work, family and relationships.
I also have particular interest and experience in working with issues around trauma, self esteem, parenting, caring and work. I have a lot of experience in working with young adults and also with parents of children with additional needs.
I love working creatively, and have previously worked in issue based theatre around mental health and homelessness. I also worked as a mental health advocate for 7 years, helping people have their voices heard in many challenging situations.
I qualified as a counsellor in 2007 and I worked with young people at The Market Place in Leeds for 9 years. I am BACP registered.
I offer a free initial 30 minute phone call, with no obligation, so you can see if it feels right for us to work together.
