About me and my therapy practice
Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to explore this page. My name is Tara, and I am a BACP Accredited psychotherapist with over 14 years of experience supporting clients in their journeys toward healing, growth, and self-discovery. My personal and professional paths have been deeply intertwined, each shaping the other and fuelling my passion for helping others.
From an early age, I became acutely aware of how life’s challenges—whether in relationships, family dynamics, or personal struggles—can leave us feeling unseen, unheard, and disconnected. These experiences sparked a curiosity in me about how people heal and find their way back to themselves, even in the face of adversity. This curiosity grew into a calling to provide the kind of safe, empathetic, and empowering space that I once longed for.
As I began to explore the world of psychotherapy, I found myself drawn to approaches that combine compassion and science. I wanted to understand not only the psychological aspects of human behavior but also the deeper, embodied experiences that shape how we think, feel, and relate to others. This drive has led me to a lifelong commitment to learning and growth, both for myself and for the benefit of those I work with.
My professional journey has been shaped by a dedication to understanding the complexities of trauma, attachment, and resilience. Alongside my practice, I am currently completing a Master’s in Trauma-Informed Practice, which deepens my ability to work with clients navigating the impact of past experiences on their present lives. I am also undertaking a three-year qualification in Somatic Experiencing (SE), an approach that addresses the ways trauma and stress are held in the body.
These advanced studies reflect not only my passion for my work but also my belief in staying at the forefront of therapeutic approaches. Trauma is a field that continues to evolve, and I see it as my responsibility to integrate the latest research and techniques into my practice.
Practice description
Practice Description
Welcome to my practice. I specialise in providing a safe, supportive, and empowering space for clients navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship struggles. My therapeutic approach is integrative and deeply rooted in compassion, combining evidence-based techniques with a focus on the mind-body connection.
A Trauma-Informed Foundation
My practice prioritises safety and trust as the foundation of healing. Trauma can leave us feeling powerless, stuck, or disconnected. I create a non-judgmental, collaborative environment where we can gently explore your experiences and work at a pace that feels right for you.
Trauma-informed therapy goes beyond revisiting the past; it’s about helping you find stability and confidence in the present while building resilience for the future. Whether you’re dealing with recent challenges or longstanding issues, I’m here to guide and support you.
The Role of Attachment
Attachment patterns formed in early relationships often shape how we relate to ourselves and others. If you’ve struggled with trust, intimacy, or self-worth, these patterns might feel familiar. My work often involves exploring these attachment wounds and helping you develop healthier, more secure connections with yourself and those around you.
Somatic Therapy: Healing the Body and Mind
Trauma doesn’t just live in the mind—it lives in the body. Many of my clients experience symptoms such as tension, restlessness, or a sense of being “stuck,” which traditional talk therapy alone may not fully address.
Somatic therapy offers tools to reconnect with your body as a source of healing. Using techniques like breath work, mindfulness, and body awareness, I help clients release stored trauma, regulate their nervous systems, and restore a sense of calm and balance.
My first session
Taking the first step into therapy can feel daunting, but it’s also the beginning of something transformative. Your first session is a space just for you—a place to feel heard, supported, and safe as we explore what’s brought you here and how we can work together to create meaningful change.
This isn’t about jumping into the deep end or solving everything all at once. It’s about creating a foundation—a starting point where you feel comfortable, understood, and hopeful. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply unsure of where to start, you don’t need to have all the answers. This is a space where we’ll figure things out together.
The first session is an opportunity to begin building a connection and understanding your unique story. It’s a space where you can share whatever feels important to you—there’s no right or wrong way to begin. You might want to talk about what’s been weighing on you, explore how you’re feeling, or even reflect on what’s brought you to therapy now.
What matters most is that you feel seen, heard, and valued. My approach is warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental, creating a space where you can truly be yourself.
We’ll explore:
• What’s currently on your mind or in your heart.
• What you’d like to gain from therapy, even if that feels unclear right now.
• What support looks like for you—whether that’s feeling calmer, rediscovering who you are, or building tools to navigate life’s challenges.
There’s no pressure to delve into everything in the first session. Instead, we’ll go at a pace that feels right for you.
In therapy, safety is key—both emotional and physical. Your first session is designed to give you a sense of what it feels like to be in a space where your thoughts, feelings, and experiences are respected and held with care.
