About me and my therapy practice
Whatever you’re feeling, whether overwhelmed, low or anxious, experiencing relationship or family difficulties, finding work stressful, feeling lonely, have lost someone you love or are experiencing ill health, counselling can help. I know it can feel daunting to start therapy, so my aim from the beginning is to offer a safe, non-judgemental, warm, caring space, where we can explore whatever you want to talk about, and where you will be listened to, valued and accepted. Through the therapeutic relationship that we develop, I hope to help you gain insight and understanding into the difficulties and challenges that you are facing, perhaps finding new ways of thinking or behaving, or new ways of relating to people and the world.
I am a person-centred counsellor and a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and BPS (British Psychological Society), with my counselling strengthened and supported by knowledge of psychology and an interest in research. I have a wealth of life and work experience including a grown up family, and experience in bereavement, domestic abuse, homelessness and social services, working with adults and older adults.
Practice description
I am a person-centred therapist, which means that I offer an empathic, caring and supportive environment and through the therapeutic relationship that we build, help you discover and connect to your feelings and emotions, gaining a deeper understanding of your self, perhaps finding new things that are important to you, or different ways that you’d like to be in the world. The 60 minute session will be focused on you and led by you, and you can talk about whatever you want, with the hope of finding some relief from telling your story and being truly heard and understood. My first session
Our first session will be a free 30 minute assessment, where I can check that I have the skills to work with you, and refer you to other services if I don’t feel I can help. Finding the right therapist is important, and this session is also so you can decide if you would like us to work together - there is no obligation to continue beyond this first session, and during therapy you can stop at any stage.
