I know it can be difficult to take that first step so I will try to make it as easy as possible for you. Please feel free to send me an email so that we can discuss how I may be able to help you.
I am currently available for in person therapy at my home office near Mansfield, online sessions via Zoom, or a blend of both. I am available at various points throughout the day Monday - Wednesday. Please contact me to find out my specific availability.
About me and my therapy practice
Hello and welcome. My name is Ben (he/him) and I am a Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I view therapy as a collaborative partnership where together we can safely explore those difficult or painful thoughts and feelings you may be having; without the risk of being judged, criticised, blamed or shamed.
Life can be pretty tough at times, and I think it is important to be able to talk things through with someone interested, kind, understanding, and knowledgeable about what you are experiencing.
Whether it is due to a relationship problem, a work-related problem, something that happened in your past, uncertainties about the future, or something entirely different: it is important to talk about it.
Practice description
I practice from my comfortable home office in Warsop, which is close to Mansfield in the NG20 area of Nottinghamshire. There are good public transport links nearby and I am approximately a 20 minute drive from junctions 29 and 30 of the M1. If travelling by car, there will usually be space to park on the drive and there is also free on-street parking if needed.
I offer open-ended therapy to adults for as long as we both agree is beneficial, for which I charge £60 per 50-minute session of counselling/psychotherapy.
As an Integrative therapist, I work in a relationally-focused and developmentally-based way and studied at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute where I received a BSc honours degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy in 2020.
Holding in mind how the impact of one's experiences throughout life shapes the person one becomes, I view the therapeutic relationship as the vehicle for change. To do this, I draw from ideas and theories from Humanistic approaches such as Gestalt, Person-Centred and Existential Psychotherapy as well as Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic approaches such as Self Psychology, Object Relations, and Attachment theory amongst others to guide my work.
To ensure I work in an ethically appropriate way, I engage in regular individual and peer supervision as well as accessing continuing professional development to further my understanding of the therapeutic process.
My first session
I believe it is important to find the right therapist for you and so the focus of the first session is on working out together if I might be right for you and if I feel I can provide you with the service you need. If, after meeting with me, you don't feel we click then you are under no obligation to continue with me. Likewise, if I feel that I am not going to be the right therapist for you, I will say so and will help you consider what other options are available to you.
In the first session, we will talk about what your reasons for seeking therapy are along with what you hope to gain from it and how we might work together to achieve those goals. In advance of our first session, I will send you a copy of my pre-therapy information sheet so that you have a good idea of what you can expect from therapy with me.
