About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified Counsellor & Psychotherapist, registered and accredited with the British Association for Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP).  I currently work for the NHS as a Parent Carer Counsellor, as well as privately for a bereavement charity.  Prior to these roles I have worked supporting family members in a variety of settings including schools, university, charities, hospices and a children's hospital.

Born abroad, and having travelled and lived in different cities and countries, I bring both experience and a continued interest to cross-cultural work, and the joys and challenges posed by difference.

I love to be outdoors, and the therapeutic impact of nature is something I have not only researched, but have also experienced personally, and increasingly enjoy exploring with my clients.

My main therapeutic goal is to facilitate new understanding and insight for my clients, by providing them with opportunities to consider where they currently are, how they got there, where they want to be, what's holding them back, and what's most important to them.

Practice description

Trained as an Integrative therapist (drawing on humanistic, psychodynamic and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy  counselling theories and models), I enjoy a flexible approach to therapy, flexing to the needs and interests of my client.  They will determine whether our focus is on bigger existential questions of life and death (and everything in-between); or exploring family relationships and systems both past and present;  or the narrative and/or patterns of behaviour that have evolved for the client over time.

Creative; mindful; active; and/or reflective interventions are available to all clients.

As meaning-making creatures, I encourage my clients to explore life's bigger questions, whether from a particular faith/spiritual viewpoint, or none, and to consider their sense of purpose.

We will regularly review our work together to ensure the client is having their needs met and/or to readdress the focus of our therapy sessions if need be.

My specialist areas of interest are:  Bereavement (including bereaved by suicide); living losses (such as life-limiting & chronic health conditions); change/transition; family relationships; identity.

My first session

I offer a free 15 minute consultation (by phone or online) to discuss us working together and to answer any questions you may have.  We will discuss the possible focus of your therapy, as well as the therapy time-frame you wish to work towards.

If you decide to pursue therapy with me, our first session will be online, and from then onwards we can continue with online-only therapy sessions or outdoor therapy sessions if you prefer.

All sessions are 50 minutes long.

Practice description

Although trained as an Integrative therapist (drawing on humanistic, psychodynamic and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy counselling theories and models), I prefer to explain my therapeutic approach jargon-free, as one that enables my clients to feel safely heard and held (metaphorically); reflecting on past or present experiences, behaviours, and relationships; naming the change/s they desire; and identifying the resources they have and need (internally and externally) for these changes to be made possible.

As meaning-making creatures, I encourage my clients to explore life's bigger questions too, be this from a particular faith/spiritual viewpoint, or none, and help them consider their sense of purpose.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Tamsin, a qualified Integrative Counsellor & Psychotherapist. My hope is that I can provide you with a safe and comfortable space to explore the issues you are struggling with. Together we can then facilitate you gaining new awareness and understanding of your experiences, the behavioural coping patterns you’ve developed, and the changes you most desire.

My counselling approach is person-centred, meaning that the focus will be on you and your story, and helping you to find the best way forward towards positive change. By integrating different counselling theories and therapeutic practices, we can use the most appropriate talking and creative interventions, to help you gain a new and clearer perspective on the issues you are facing.

I have over 15 years of experience supporting people in a variety of settings in the community, hospitals, hospices, secondary schools, and the University sector. I’ve worked with adults and young people struggling with mental health conditions, chronic and terminal physical health conditions, loss and bereavement, difficult family relationships, and issues around identity and self-worth. Living and working in different cities and countries around the world, has given me experience of working with people from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and faiths, as well as people exploring their gender and sexuality.

Whatever the issue, I believe that if you are willing to engage in the therapeutic counselling process, together we can work towards you better understanding and accepting yourself, as well as discovering or rediscovering what is really important to you. Change is always possible, with patience, one step at a time.
