About me and my therapy practice
You might turn to therapy for a number of reasons: having faced a life-changing event, trauma, bereavement, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or low self- esteem. You may struggle with functioning on a day- to- day basis, or feel overwhelmed by feelings and emotions that you don't understand. Past life events can also get in the way of living your life fully in the present moment, and you may struggle to connect with others, and feel isolated.
At times it can feel as though no one really listens, or understands what you are going through. This is where confidential, professional help in the form of therapy could be the answer.
You may feel disconnected from the world around you; have difficult feelings, thoughts, and emotions, or even have physical symptoms for no obvious reason. I can help you make sense of your unique experiences and your natural, physical and psychological responses to distress. I will listen to you without judgement; with empathy and genuine compassion.
We all need a helping hand at times in order to overcome life's challenges, so you need not feel afraid to ask for help in doing so. Realising that you need help is a sign of strength and self -knowledge, and is the start of your journey towards healing and improved well-being.
If you want to understand yourself better and make changes in your life, then I can help you achieve some perspective through increased self- awareness and insight into your thoughts, feelings, emotions and behaviours.
I have worked in education for over 20 years and have experience of bereavement support at Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice in Leeds. Since then I have worked in private practice and have focused on anxiety, trauma, depression, bereavement, and relationship issues.
I have treated clients from a wide variety of professions and walks of life: doctors, dentists, teachers, college and university students, police officers, academics, accountants, civil servants and barristers to name a few.
Practice description
I am an accredited integrative , relational therapist which means I combine a variety of techniques and strategies and deliver them by first establishing a strong therapeutic relationship. Successful therapy outcomes rely on a sound alliance between client and therapist. The techniques and strategies used in the therapy process will be tailored to suit your specific needs as my client, so I will not employ a one- size-fits- all approach. I use a combination of CBT, psychodynamic, person- centred, body awareness , holistic and mindfulness techniques amongst others.
I treat my clients holistically so you will be seen and accepted for the complete person that you are, and listened to in a non-judgemental way with empathy, genuineness and compassion.
I can help you work through difficult emotions, thoughts and feelings by providing you with a safe space in which to openly explore and understand them. I can also enable you to understand how your emotions and thoughts impact on your actions and behaviours and how to change that.
The process is a collaborative one and my role is to help you to grow in resilience and learn skills and strategies to help you manage and improve how you feel. You will play an active role in this journey towards wellness, self -confidence, autonomy and self - knowledge. I am here to listen to you and offer guidance and support you along the way and help you to grow and heal as a person.
Your confidentiality will be maintained at all times in accordance with the BACP ethical guidelines so you can rest assured that you will be seen by a fully qualified and regulated professional counsellor and psychotherapist.
My first session
During your first session we can determine what your needs are and how we can work together. I will introduce myself and ask you a little about yourself, why you are seeking therapy and what you hope to achieve from the process.
When using the BACP contact form please provide brief details of what you would like help with. We can then arrange a free 15 minute phone consultation to discuss how we can work together and you can also ask me any questions you have about the therapy process.
