About me and my therapy practice
I am qualified to work with children over the age of 8, young people and adults. I have experience of working with special educational needs both with children and adults.
Sometimes it is difficult to put our feelings into words. You can show me how life feels through creativity, clay, sand, puppets or any way you feel comfortable. We can even go for a walk together.
Practice description
I work from a fully accessible, modern village hall where there is outside space to enjoy as well as the comfort of a warm, spacious room.
I offer a brief, free of charge telephone consultation followed by an hour long assessment appointment prior to therapy.
Whilst the majority of time with children and young people is one to one, if appropriate I encourage parental involvement when needed to provide support when outside of the therapy room.
I appreciate parents / carers of children being nearby at all times just incase you are needed.
Therapy is also provided to adults who have had difficult experiences in their lives or who are struggling in the present.
Parking is free and there are refreshments available at no extra cost.
My first session
During an assessment appointment I prefer it if a child or young person's or vulnerable adult's parent or carer can be present throughout. This is not a therapy session; it is a chance for you to see how I work and for me to explain why I work the way I do. We can then decide if my way of working is right for you.
It is very difficult for a child, young person or even adults to just talk. I can show you the various ways in which I can help you to express feelings and show me your world. This may be through pictures, symbols, in sand, through music and many more ways. I will show you what I can offer whilst discovering your likes and dislikes.
During this assessment it can be useful to learn a bit about your brain and nervous system. This helps you to understand why you may be feeling the way you do and can give you an idea of how my kind of therapy can help you to feel more in control. I show you this in an way that is easy to understand- most people find it really helpful to realise that your reactions are actually normal!
