About me and my therapy practice
I offer support to anyone who wants to discuss their feelings in a confidential, non-judgemental space.
Counselling offers you an opportunity to discuss your difficulties, but also to think about what brings you meaning.
I trained in 'psychodynamic' psychotherapy, which is one of several kinds of therapy; it considers how people's experiences may have affected their lives and patterns of behaviour or feelings. However, I provide counselling that is tailored to your individual needs, combining different strands of therapeutic expertise.
I am bound by the BACP's Ethical Framework, which ensures I work responsibly and professionally.
I trained at the University of Oxford over a number of years, gaining a Diploma and Masters in Psychodynamic Practice.
I have worked across a wide range of settings (private organisations, mental health charities, schools and universities) and enjoy working with as varied a client base as possible. My practice is inclusive of everybody. I offer short-term and long-term, open-ended counselling to adults, adolescents and children.
Practice description
I am providing therapy over video call and telephone for the foreseeable future.
Most online sessions take place using Zoom, an encrypted video platform which is simple to use. I have extensive experience providing online counselling, so if working online feels a little daunting to you, don't worry - these sessions can be as effective as in-person work. Lockdown should not be a barrier to accessing support at a time when you may especially need it.
I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation where we can discuss the best type of support for you and schedule an initial assessment if you'd like. An initial assessment is a 50 minute appointment, during which we will explore what has prompted you to seek counselling, and to discuss working together; there is no obligation to continue.
If we do decide to schedule ongoing appointments, these are usually weekly, and can be short-term or open-ended. We would discuss the best option for you.
Appointments are usually £80, with some concessions (£70) for daytime slots (depending on availability). We would agree the fee in your first appointment. Payment is made by transfer in advance of each session.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to discuss your reasons for coming to counselling.
It will give you a chance to ask any questions, and help us think about how best to work together.
I may feel that another service would be more useful or may recommend that we begin therapy together. In this case I would make a suggestion of how many sessions to start with.
