About me and my therapy practice
I am a Therapist/Counsellor who is specialised in therapeutic delivery for children, young people, individuals and families, having completed a counselling Masters at the University of Northampton. I have many years experience supporting the behavioural, social, emotional and mental health difficulties of individuals from both a counselling and mentoring perspective.
I pride myself on my ability to build a warm and comfortable relationship with my clients and see this as central to my counselling success.
I am a Registered Member MBACP (Accred) of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and adhere to their ethical guidelines and code of conduct. This includes attending regular supervision and engaging in continued professional development. I also hold a clean DBS.
Practice description
I consider myself an Integrative Therapist meaning that I draw on the therapeutic theories and approaches that I feel would be most beneficial for my client’s needs. This may include a combination of approaches, such as: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person-centred/humanistic approaches, ACT, Creative & Play therapies and Systemic Family therapy.
I view my position as a facilitator of therapeutic exploration; who offers a confidential and non-judgemental space where you can learn and reflect on thoughts, feelings, relationships and experiences. I will encourage self-reflection, challenge your current cognitive processes, and offer alternative theories to be explored, in order to help you achieve a greater understanding of your current narrative.
I am skilled in the use of creative and/or play methods which enable emotional expression when words may not support this.
Please email me with any questions you may have with regards to counselling or my therapeutic delivery. If you would prefer to speak to me prior to any therapeutic engagement, please provide me with a contact number and I can give you a call to discuss.
My first session
Initial contact- no charge
If requested, I will contact you via email/phone call (following your preference). This is to provide a basic overview of therapy, and answer any questions you may have about me/my practice.
First session- Base Assessment
The initial session is a approx. 50-minute base assessment of your reasons for accessing counselling and the beginning of therapeutic goals, and an introduction to the therapeutic boundaries and structure of the therapy, including an explanation of confidentiality. The counselling contract will be agreed and signed, and any outstanding questions will be answered.
You are not required to continue with the sessions if you decide that it is not suitable for you.
On-going therapy thereafter
Approximately, 50-minute session, at an agreed time and the desired interval (e.g. weekly, fortnightly), where you will explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences and behaviours that may be influencing your challenges. I will utilise techniques such as reframing, to help broaden your mindset along the therapeutic journey.
All communications are confidential to allow free expression without judgement to enable your therapeutic journey to take place.
