About me and my therapy practice
My name is Matthew (he/him) and I offer support for anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship issues. My specialisation is working with people who are LGBTQ+ and ADHD / Neurodivergent, however, I offer a warm welcome to all. Having personally experienced the challenges of living in a heteronormative and neurotypical world, I understand the complexities of dealing with feelings of shame and rejection. I believe these feelings can be overcome and I offer a new hope for living comfortably and authentically.
I champion ongoing mental health maintenance, promoting therapy as a gym membership for the mind, an opportunity to get to know and understand yourself better and a way of allowing you to connect with your core values.
Practice description
All weekly sessions take place online or over the telephone. I use Zoom for video sessions and will send you a link shortly before the agreed session start time. If you prefer a telephone session, I will call you at the agreed session start time. I am excited that online working now allows for a more accessible approach to therapy.
I am a recognised psychotherapist with private medical insurers: AXA, Aviva, and WPA. Please ask me about payment of sessions through insurance if this applies to you.
My first session
This will be an assessment to talk about what has brought you to therapy and what you would like from the process. Don't worry if you are not entirely sure, lots of people just have a general feeling they would like to talk to someone without being able to be more specific at first. The space is yours and we will work at your pace. We will also talk through the contract and, most importantly, decide if we are the right fit for each other.
It's important to find the right therapist for you. If you're interested, you can email me to arrange a 10 minute chat at no cost and with no obligation. This initial conversation will give you a chance to see if you feel comfortable booking an initial session with me.
All calls, voicemails and emails are treated confidentially and I aim to respond within 24 hours, within the working week.
