About me and my therapy practice
I'm an integrative relational counsellor. I am trained in and draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches and I tailor my approach to suit you. This might mean exploring past experiences and traumas or staying focused on current challenges. For some, it might mean adopting a problem-solving approach informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Positive Psychology. However we choose to work, it will be in the context of an empathetic, trusting relationship that helps you to a deeper understanding of what makes you tick in a supportive environment.
I love working with people of all ages to help them address issues including anxiety, depression, sexuality, gender, workplace bullying, relationship difficulties and that nagging sense of pointlessness which dogs so many of us.
I have extensive experience within the education system at all levels and I have many clients who are neurodivergent. I also have considerable experience in working with parents of young people living with a wide range of mental health issues and conditions.
For me, the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the key to success. I will work with you to explore the way you think, feel, sense and perceive the world. We will sit together, as equals. I will offer empathy, support and, if it will be helpful, challenge.
Most of all, I will listen to you.
When we meet, we will agree on what we are working towards and consider what progress will look like for you. In this way I will attempt to ensure that your experience of counselling will be unique, individualised and relevant.

Practice description
As an Integrative, Humanistic practitioner, I have training in a range of approaches, ranging from Psychodynamic Therapy to Person Centred Counselling and also CBT, resilience development and Positive Psychology. I use these to inform my work, rather than define or restrict it.
I aim to find the balance between empathy and understanding, on the one hand, and exploration and challenge, on the other. I am a Relational therapist, in that I work on the premise that the way clients are in our therapeutic relationship can tell us a lot about how you approach life. I believe that feeling seen, understood and unconditionally accepted by another human is rare and can, in itself, have an significant impact on one's wellbeing.
I work face-to-face in a large, bright, comfortable room in central Hertford.
My first session
After an initial complimentary telephone call, I spend the first session (and maybe 2 sessions) getting to know you and working to understand your situation and challenges. I ask questions and I need to gather some specific information as part of an initial assessment, however, I make very few notes and I am most interested in what you want to talk about and how you say it. As mentioned above, at the end of our first or second session, we will agree on what we are working towards and consider what progress will look like for you.
Call (07395 132908) or email (andrew@nooncounselling.com) and I'll arrange for a complimentary 20 minute phone session; when we can talk about what you want to get out of counselling. If you're happy to continue, we can make plans for further sessions, usually on a weekly basis.
