I imagine you are here because you are facing a challenge in life, seeking to heal or wanting to work towards a more positive future.

I work on line and face to face in Wilmslow. I offer sessions Monday to Thursday including some evening.   I am happy to adjust the frequency of sessions to suit your budget.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer a quiet space to look at issues that are troubling you at a pace that suits you. I offer individual and couple therapy and I will work with you to identify the source of the difficulty, unrest or distress and together we will find ways to navigate and find meaning in the experience. With this understanding new ways of ‘being’ and living can emerge.

Working together on line, or face to face, the aim will be to build a strong therapeutic relationship where you can talk about anything without judgement, make sense of thoughts, feelings, maybe explore the past, examine current unwanted patterns of behaviour and perhaps  look at ways of relating to yourself and others.

I have my foundation in Person Centred and Compassion-Focused therapies. This means that compassion and nurturing self-compassion are central. My strength lies in seeing what you need and, based on that, applying techniques that take you forward and make life easier and help you get out of repetitive or unwanted emotions.

So, how does it work? I work with adults on a whole range of different issues including anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship issues, loss, and unhelpful patterns of behaviour.

I make sure to make you feel safe in sessions - and feel like you are not alone in dealing with what feels difficult.

Practice description

The sessions are yours to bring whatever feels in need of attention. Together we might explore your history to understand the reasons for what might be going on for you. This can help you understand yourself better and look to make healthier, more authentic choices and decisions.

Although short treatments can give fantastic results, I think therapy is at its best when you can give it time and go deep if comfortable to do so.  Remember, I will never make you talk about something you don't feel comfortable in sharing.

As well as working with adult individuals, I work with couples and Two’s, where I offer an approach that has successfully supported couples who want to change areas in the relationship where conflict repeatedly occurs and where couples want to find more effective ways of connecting and communicating.

My first session

So, what happens next? Well, we can arrange a brief telephone call to discuss what to expect, costs and arrangements. You will then receive some paperwork from me with further information and we can book in your first session.

Sessions may be taken weekly or fortnightly, or at agreed intervals that meet your needs. I am happy to work within your budget re frequency. I work in Wilmslow and on line.

I am aware that first session can feel daunting and anxiety provoking.  If it helps, do get in touch via email judyobrien@btinternet.com for a free 10 minute chat before booking a session.
