About me and my therapy practice
Looking for change? I am trained to listen and will be fully focused on you. I offer support to explore and address any feelings, thoughts or behaviours that are negatively affecting your life. I am passionate about providing counselling that opens a pathway to more inner strength, joy and freedom.
My background and experience
Before training as a counsellor, I worked at Victim Support and supported survivors of rape, sexual assault and domestic abuse, in addition to many other types of crime. I have also been employed in schools, addiction recovery settings and a prison, primarily as a teacher but also incorporating mind-body approaches such as shiatsu and mindfulness meditation.
As a counsellor in an NHS medical practice, I assisted clients with many issues, for example, bereavement and long-term health conditions. I have studied a range of counselling theories, so I create an individualised approach to meet your unique needs. My areas of special interest are couples, depression, anxiety, family issues and low self-esteem. I have also engaged in workshops on discussing sexual problems in an inclusive, open and sensitive way.
I work at a rape and sexual abuse charity for one day per week. This has given me a good grounding in trauma-informed counselling practice.
First steps
For new clients, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation, in which you can tell me about what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to achieve. Together, we can explore whether we are a good fit, and if not, we can discuss other ways for you to move forward.
I have had counselling myself, so I understand that it can take a lot to reach out for help and will treat you with kindness and respect. Clients have told me they have appreciated 'really being heard', and 'never being judged or told what to do'. I will relate to you with warmth, empathy and compassion.
Practice description
I work in-person in Hathersage, Derbyshire and at Sheffield Wellness Centre in south-west Sheffield. I also work online and can combine the two options, for extra convenience.
Email or text me to arrange your free 15 minute consultation.
My first session
In your first session, we will get to know each other and you will gain an experience of what counselling with me is like.
I will ask you questions about your life in general, as well as your main concern. If there is something you do not want to talk about, I will fully respect that, whilst leaving the option open for you to return to anything important when you are ready.
I offer brief and extended work and we will talk about how long you would like to use counselling for. This is flexible based on your need and open for regular review.
I offer first sessions of 50 minutes for £60 (or 60 minutes for £85 for couples), which is the same as my continuing sessions.
