About me and my therapy practice
When someone you love dies, the grief can be overwhelming. It can affect us emotionally and physically and also affect our mental health, so that every day can suddenly feel like a struggle. Sometimes life can even feel pointless.
A loved one's death can leave a big void, especially if you were looking after them prior to their death, which takes time to adjust to. You might also have had a complicated relationship with that person which has left you feeling angry, hurt or confused.
Friends and family want to help but are often struggling with their own grief or perhaps don’t know what to say or do for the best.
Counselling provides a confidential, non judgmental space for you to explore your grief, normalise how you are feeling and move forward.
Who do I work with ?
Bereavement
I support people who have lost loved ones for whatever reason, including sudden death, loss to suicide, baby loss and pet bereavement.
Loss
I also support people around loss associated with other big life changes such as parenthood, separation/divorce, career changes or other difficult issues such as anxiety, stress or depression brought on by relationship or work problems.
Change
And I also help people explore why they might generally feel dissatisfied or unfulfilled with their life.
I offer face to face counselling sessions. Or if you prefer, we can work via Zoom or telephone.
I draw on my experience as a bereavement volunteer for Cruse Bereavement Support - South Hants, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole branch
Practice description
My counselling room is in a converted barn in the country, overlooking fields, just a short drive out of town - this gives you time to unwind on your way to me and time to reflect on the way home. There is plenty of parking.
This tranquil spot offers a supportive, non-judgmental and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and memories in order that you can 'feel heard' but also come to terms with your loss.
Counselling will also help you gain a better understanding of yourself, your emotions and patterns of behaviour, allowing you to make better choices and decisions going forward.
My first session
It is really important that you find someone who makes you feel safe, understood and able to share. I therefore offer an introductory session at the reduced rate of £25 for 50 minutes where we can discuss what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to achieve from counselling. I also explain how I work and answer any questions that you might have.
At the end there is no pressure to book your next session with me. I am happy for you to go away and have a think about the session and whether I am the right counsellor for you.
