About me and my therapy practice
I am Steve Newcombe, a therapist in Chester. I am a qualified supervisor, having passed the CPCAB Certificate in Counselling Supervision.
I work with both advanced and trainee therapists and offer group supervision facilitation.
I work from a humanistic base, having qualified as a person-centred therapist, I am trauma informed and integrate Gestalt and Existential methods into my practice. I work collaboratively and aim to foster a trusting relationship that meets the therapist where they are and welcomes your own approach, skills and development needs. As a humanist, the client is always at the centre of our work.
I follow the Hawkins and Shohet model of supervision – ‘Seven Eyed Model’ and Yalom’s teachings around group therapy and supervision. Using these models and my own therapeutic training, it is my aim to support both you and your client’s needs.
Practice description
Supervision is a valuable resource for all practitioners and should be challenging yet restorative. My aim is to support and hold the practitioner and simultaneously challenge and stretch learning and best practice.
I provide both individual and group supervision. Sessions are usually 1 – 1.5 hours in duration but can be tailored to an individual’s needs. Group supervision can be allocated more time as required.
I offer clinical supervision to other helping professionals. Social workers, pastoral care providers, mental health support workers can all benefit from good, supportive clinical supervision.
I can also provide ad hoc support if required. This might be ethical due to dilemma’s, the need for a different perspective from you current supervisor or a specific issue you might need a different view on. I am happy to field one-off enquiries if you feel this adds value.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. Every therapeutic and supervisory relationship is different so this is our chance to see if we can work together and whether I am the right fit for you.
I’ll be interested to hear your story, what your needs are and also your fears. I’m sure you will have things to ask me as well and this is our opportunity to start building our relationship.
In order to create a trusting relationship, we have to meet, logistically, emotionally and practically. If I am not the right fit for you, I will endeavour to help you find someone who is.
