‘I think I need therapy’ is probably a thought that has crossed your mind and I expect that’s why you’re searching these listings.

So hello and welcome. I’m Philippa, and I do understand that this may be a challenging time for you and that finding a therapist is a big decision to make.

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor with a private practice in Twickenham, working online, in person and over the telephone.

I offer a confidential space where you can feel safe, understood and trusted as you start to explore the reasons why you feel as you do.

Most of my work is online, which means that I’m able to work with you wherever you are located. Working online also means that you have flexibility to have your sessions at home, in your car, while you’re out on a walk…in fact, anywhere! As long as you have the space to speak confidentiality, you don’t need to travel to your sessions with me.

Counselling can give you a safe and confidential space which is uniquely yours, where you won’t be judged but you will be heard. You have taken the first step towards change by coming here and reading this far.

How counselling can help

It is part of being human that we may experience situations and emotions that leave us feeling overwhelmed and unable to think clearly or move forward in our lives. Honestly, there doesn’t have to have been a huge ‘trauma’ event that has happened to you - you might just be feeling sad, upset, scared, lonely or anxious.

Counselling provides safety - an impartial environment in which you can find emotional support to help you explore and unravel the difficulties you are facing and move towards the change required to rediscover your true self and live a more fulfilling life.

Practice description

How I work

I know that taking the first step to make contact requires courage at a time when you may feel anything but courageous. However, I will offer you the opportunity to share your thoughts, your anxieties and your fears, whatever they are, so that we may work together as you find your way to a calmer and more hopeful way of being.

You might want to explore specific experiences, you may just want to talk about how you feel, what you think, why you behave as you do. That’s all fine - I have the expertise, time and space to work with you. Just send me an email or call me and we can chat.

Our work together will be specifically tailored to you as I recognise that every client is unique. I draw on a range of knowledge and skills, adapting my approach to suit your individual needs.

Training, qualifications and experience

  •  I have a postgraduate Diploma in Therapeutic Integrative Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I subscribe to their ethical code of practice.
  • In addition to my private practice, I have gained extensive experience working as a counsellor for an addictions charity. I have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the emotional trauma around addiction - both from the client’s point of view and also the families and friends who struggle to support the individual. I have considerable understanding of 12 Step recovery programmes.
  • I also hold a postgraduate teaching degree and, prior to training as a counsellor, I worked for many years as a teacher and mentor in London secondary schools. This has given me a deep understanding and interest in the difficulties and challenges faced by young people today as they grow into adulthood in this ever-changing world.
  • My experience spans all the common emotional and mental wellness challenges you could encounter, including feelings of sadness, depression, despair, anxiety, abandonment, isolation, loneliness, rejection and grief.

My first session

Finding the right therapist can feel challenging and even daunting and I aim to make the process as straightforward as possible.

I offer a free initial telephone consultation or, if you prefer, you can come straight into your first session. During the initial appointment we can discuss what brings you to therapy and why now. You can also ask any questions you might have about the process.

What is most important is that our relationship will be at the heart of how we work together, helping you face the issues that you bring to me. I will listen to you carefully and work with you without judgment. Whatever your situation, I will offer you the support you need.

I provide short or long term counselling and our sessions will last fifty minutes, usually taking place on a weekly basis at the same time.

I work mainly with adults, though I also enjoy working with older teenagers.

If you are looking for someone who is calm, approachable and committed and you need to talk, let’s make a start…send me an email or give me a call (leave a message if I can’t pick up). A text or WhatsApp message works just as well.

Let’s start to work out how you can move forward and begin the process of feeling better.
