About me and my therapy practice
I am an Integrative Psychotherapist, I found my passion for therapy after many years of working with people as a youth worker, in community services and children's homes. I became fascinated with how we relate to one another and how our relationships shape us as people. I graduated with a MSc. Integrative Psychotherapy with adults and children from Newman University in Birmingham. My integrative style means I integrate ideas about the problems people face, how they develop to work collaboratively with clients to think about need to change in their lives. Since graduating I have been working with; Birmingham LGBT on the Trans Inclusion Project, and LGBT counselling service. I have also been working with the Living Well Consortium providing outdoor therapy in parks in the Birmingham area and also The What Centre, working with predominantly under 18's using talking therapy and play and a way of making sense of what is happening for clients and resolving their discomfort.
Practice description
My practice is built upon an ethos of working 'with' my clients, I am not the expert on your life but someone who is here to support you to make sense of what is happening. I have worked with many people who have shared so many different stories, challenges as well as great strengths and resources as a result of their experiences. I do this by offering genuine empathy and compassion. Counselling is about us working together to understand what is happening for you, for you to bring what you need to. I am here to; listen, notice and be curious with you to reflect, reframe and bring things into your awareness to support change. I value a humanistic and person-centred approach to my work and believe the relationship is key to the counselling process and its success. I offer a truly non-judgmental space for you to bring whatever it is that you feel needs to be shared, for that is most important.
My first session
The relationship is really important to the counselling process and how successful it is. With this in mind I offer an initial session that is free of charge. This allows us a chance to meet or talk on the phone to find out a little more about one another what is happening for you and whether we feel it is appropriate to work together.
