About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified integrative counsellor based in Birstall, Leicester. I am a registered member of the BACP and the National Counselling Society. I provide a safe, comfortable, confidential, non-judgemental place for you to talk, share your concerns and to be listened to. I use a person-centred approach to enable you to explore your thoughts and concerns at your pace, in a way that suits you. I can integrate a range of approaches including psychodynamic, CBT, solution-focused, TIST (Trauma-Informed Stabilisation Treatment) depending on your needs and desired outcomes. If these terms aren't familiar to you...what I do is provide the space for you to deal with things that are bothering you, and stopping you from living the life you want to live, by supporting you to work through issues at your own pace.Practice description
I have experience of working therapeutically with young people and adults on a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, abuse, relationships, family issues, self-esteem, eating disorders and stress. The most important aspect of any therapy is the relationship between client and therapist; it is important to develop an authentic, trusting relationship. For that reason, it is important for us to meet before you commit to any short or long term therapy. An initial assessment meeting gives us the chance to establish whether we will be a good fit for each other, whether you feel I will be able to support you in the changes you want to make and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about our sessions or counselling in general. There are times in all of our lives when we get 'stuck' and find ourselves not able to live the life we want to live. This may be because of a particular traumatic incident, a bereavement, an unhealthy relationship, bad habits, general anxiety or stress. When we have an issue in our lives, which is preventing us from being happy, it can be hard to work this through on our own. Through counselling, we can begin to understand our own behaviour and history so we can understand why we do what we do...then we can begin to make more positive choices and changes in our lives. The role of counselling is to help you to become 'unstuck' and move on.My first session
In our initial meeting, I will ask you to outline why you want to come to counselling and what you would like to get from the process. I will ask you some basic details about you and your life and there will be plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions and share any concerns you may have about the counselling process. In subsequent sessions, what we talk about will be guided by you - the time we have together is a chance for you to talk about the things that are important to you. What I can help with
