About me and my therapy practice
Our relationships are fundamental to our lives, whether that’s with our family, friends or colleagues. They can bring us comfort and also anguish.
I believe in three things:
• That our relationships can be key to a leading a fulfilling life.
• That where we come from informs who we are, but does not necessarily determine where we end up.
• That we each need to express who we are without fear of judgement
I will work with you, using the counselling relationship to mirror important relationships in your life, so that we can more easily see patterns of behaviour that no longer serve you. Counselling can be a healing journey, sometimes challenging, and a rewarding experience that can help you gain insight and aid personal growth, making life more fulfilling for you.
Practice description
Some of the key areas I work in:
Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety and depression are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience in our lives. Through the counselling relationship, we will work together to manage these and, with acceptance and insight, there is a good chance that things will begin to shift for you.
Relationships
Interpersonal relationships can be a source of both joy and pain in our lives. By exploring these in therapy and using the therapeutic relationship in the room as a mirror to your outside life, we can build a better understanding of what the dynamics are and how to change them.
Gender and Sexuality
Our own gender identity and sexual orientation play a vital role in expressing who we are. Self-acceptance is a cornerstone of living our lives authentically and without the support of family and friends, this can be hard. Therapy seeks to build self-acceptance and navigate new paths towards healthier relationships with friends and family.
Neurodiversity
Often, it seems, people with a neurodivergence are expected to fit into a neurotypical world, whether this is Autism (ASD), ADHD or another neurodivergence. If there are divergent ways of thinking and behaving that you're curious about, or that you know about already and don't want to have to explain, then I have experience working with neurodivergence and my therapeutic style is inclusive, welcoming and affirmative. I also recognise and affirm intersections between neurodivergence and gender and sexual diversity where it occurs.
My first session
I offer a free initial consultation. This affords you an opportunity to ask any questions about me or the counselling process. It will also help me to understand where you are in your life and what you want to get from counselling.
