About me and my therapy practice

Hello, and a warm West Yorkshire welcome.

My name is Nicola Furbisher; and I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor supporting people who are struggling & in distress. I offer a warm welcome, an open heart & time & space to be with you, to be alongside you for as long or as short a period as you need.

*******

I work face to face and also online using Teams, Meet, WhatsApp, FaceTime, phone & email. We can work out what works best for you.

*********

In my day to day counselling, I work with people managing a variety of issues; including those who are grieving, who have anxiety and depression, and those who have suffered mental, physical or sexual abuse. I also help people with low self-esteem, and those who are suffering from work or family-related problems.

Sometimes people need support due to events that have happened in their life, and sometimes because of things are going on for them now - be it health, family or age-related issues.

I am integrative in my approach which means our work together can take many directions and will be specifically tailored to you. I believe that a lot of pain we endure in our present life comes from things that happened to us when we were younger; and when our issues are about present day difficulties it can often be the case that our approach and resilience is affected by our lack of self-belief, self-worth and self-esteem.

Together we can gently explore what's going for you and perhaps challenge perceptions, behaviours and harmful beliefs.

I have worked with many clients who have suffered significant trauma in their lives and exploring body and mind responses and looking at coping strategies can be a large part of the work we do together in these circumstances.

What's most important, is that our relationship will be at the heart of how we work together to help you work through the issues you bring.

Warmest wishes, Nicola

Practice description

I practice from my counselling suite at Tong Hall Business Centre in Tong Village, West Yorkshire (BD4 0RR)

Alongside my private work I have worked as a counsellor at Leeds Mind and also at Support after Rape and Sexual Violence Leeds (SARSVL).

I also worked for more than a year at Mosaic II, a charity specialising in providing support for people who have been affected by sexual abuse; either sufferers themselves or their relatives. I also worked at the Palm Cove Society in Leeds, an organisation that supports survivors of modern slavery.

I hold a current enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate, have insurance cover in association with my profession and have regular continuing professional training and, like all ethical counsellors, work with a supervisor to ensure I continue to develop my knowledge, experience and understanding.

Fees:

An Individual face counselling session with me is £55.

My first session

Our first meeting will give you a chance to explore why you feel therapy might be right for you and what brings you to counselling.

I understand it can be a real challenge taking this first step, but I will support you and make the process as easy and as relaxed as possible for you. Above all it's important you feel safe and held in the counselling space as we get to know each other.

There will be some information to gather such as your details and any history or circumstances that are relevant to you seeking therapy, and we can establish if we feel comfortable working together. If I feel you would be better served with a different kind of psychological support I can help you find someone else and offer support with the referral.

We can also use this session to discuss what times and days would be easier for you to attend and discuss how we might work together. You might have lots of questions, and this is a useful time to look at your hopes and expectations.

The first meeting also allows you time to reflect on whether counselling is the right step for you at this time, and I will support you in whatever you decide to do.

At the end of this session, if we are both happy to proceed, our work together can begin.
