About me and my therapy practice
I like to start with some idea of what you hope to gain from counselling sessions. This may vary from a vague “I just want to feel happier” to a more specific aim or intention. I believe the best place to start is with what is happening for you right now. Often feelings in the body can be a good starting point for explorations of what needs most attention for you to start feeling more at ease with yourself and your life.
What we often find are patterns that keep playing round and round, calling for some change. This is the work. It’s not always easy, but it is usually rewarding. It can lead to you feeling more alive as well as more engaged. More of a sense of you choosing the life you want. My aim is always for you to feel welcome and safe, seeing the benefits of spending time looking at what holds you back and finding that you can set down the burdens you carry. Some people just need a space in which they can simply unload some stress or speak in confidence about what is going on for them.
I also have experience working with couples. Counselling can provide a safe space for you to iron out disagreements, communicate with each other more effectively and begin to move towards conflict resolution by voicing your needs and being heard in an environment of active listening.
Practice description
My designated practice room is in Glastonbury where I live, next to the gate entrance that leads up to the Tor. I am also happy to work with individuals online via zoom or WhatsApp. My practice room is on the ground floor of my house which is quiet, confidential and welcoming. There is off road parking in the driveway.
My first session
Our first session will be a space for us to chat about your reasons for coming to counselling, some background medical history and whether it will make sense for us to work together. It usually lasts for about 40 to 45 minutes. I will draw up a working agreement with you in which we agree terms and conditions and will give you an opportunity to ask any questions you have about counselling. There is a fee of £30 for this initial consultation. While it is helpful for the therapeutic process to commit to working for at least 6 sessions, there is no requirement for you to make such a commitment. I do ask for clients to commit to weekly visits at the same time each week.
