About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Ruth (she/her). Thank you for visiting my profile.
I am a person-centred, integrative counsellor. This means that when we work together, I will be guided by you on the direction therapy takes. It also means that I will draw on different therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Transactional Analysis and mindfulness depending on what is useful to you,
My therapeutic style centres around creating a welcoming, confidential and non-judgmental space where you feel safe to be yourself, and where we can work together, talking at your pace, to explore what is on your mind and what is going on for you.
People come to counselling for all sorts of different reasons. Whether you are struggling with something that is happening currently, or feel impacted by past events, working together in this way can help you gain clarity on what is important to you, help you to find solutions that are right for you, help you feel less alone, or simply help you to feel better in yourself.
Practice description
I work with adults of all ages, identities and backgrounds.
I have a wealth of experience working with adults in various roles in the local authority and charity sectors, including supporting unpaid family carers for over a decade.
I am trained in bereavement support and am experienced in working with people with a wide range of life difficulties. I have worked in a variety of counselling organisations including in bereavement support and women's wellbeing charities, as well as in NHS primary care.
My first session
Choosing the right counsellor can be difficult. To help you decide whether I am the right counsellor for you I can offer a short introductory phone or online appointment at no charge. During this time, we will discuss what you would like from counselling and see if we are a good fit to work together.
If counselling with me is right for you, in your first counselling session we will discuss in more detail what to expect from counselling and I will find out more about you. Ongoing sessions will usually be 50 minutes long. As counselling progresses, we will regularly review how your sessions are going, to ensure they continue to meet your needs.
