About me and my therapy practice
I have worked in supportive roles with the government for over 15 years. My earlier career focused on helping homeless people gain stability and focus to help them move towards a life of greater fulfilment and happiness.
I am passionate about helping people learn about themselves, understand themselves and reach their potential. My training and development has always been about helping me develop my skills so I am better equipped to help others.
I primarily work on a one to one basis and am available to run group work as well. I meet with client's either face to face, over the phone or using online video conferencing.
Practice description
I am experienced in supporting people struggling with emotional difficulty and substance misuse. I have supported people struggling with substance misuse for over 15 years. I am also passionate about supporting people who are struggling emotionally in life and hope to help people move to a happier, healthier place.
I have specifically worked with young people (under 25) for roughly 10 years and have a good understanding of how to work with this age group.
I am a fully qualified psychodynamic counsellor, registered with BACP. I am also a fully qualified Wellbeing Practitioner with a post graduate certificate in this area. I have also completed a post graduate certificate in Philosophy.
Fundamentally I work in a Person-Centred way. What this means is that I will take the time to understand the difficulty you are experiencing whilst working with you to help develop your understanding of this difficulty. With time and insight I have felt how understanding creates peace and acceptance in my clients which ultimately leads to a happier life.
Through my training and experience I have learnt many tools and techniques which I share with my clients as and when I feel they will benefit from them.
My first session
You can expect our first session to be relaxed. I know it takes courage to make contact with a therapist, I treat this contact with respect and I will approach our work with care. During our first session I will take the time to find out more about the difficulty you are experiencing, I will also ensure that I am qualified and trained to support you. If not I will recommend the support that I feel is right for you.
During our first session I will also work with you to develop a contract of how we will work together and what you can expect from our work.
