About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I am Rachel welcome to my profile. Congratulations on making the first step by looking for a counsellor. Seeking counselling can seem daunting at first sharing your innermost thoughts and feelings with someone who is at first a stranger. I am here to help you on your journey and I believe that the relationship between counsellor and client is important in therapy and I hope that this profile gives you an idea of whether you feel we can work together.
I am a qualified counsellor and registered BACP member, and work to their Ethical Framework (https://www.bacp.co.uk). I am passionate about people and think it is a privilege to help them.
I believe therapy needs to be tailored to each individual adapting my approach to suit your needs and objectives. In therapy I work alongside you to guide you to a better understanding of how and why you have come to feel the way you do and helping you to develop strategies to better manage unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
As a relational therapist, I believe the relationships we experience in life with ourselves and others are important to our well-being and development. I will help you to explore your relationships in the past and present and explore their effects on your well-being and development. In counselling, I believe the relationship between counsellor and client is central to successful therapy. We will work collaboratively in a mainly person-centred way as I believe it is for you to decide what issues you want to explore to help you to find a way forward and to empower you to make positive changes in your life. I am happy to work on both a long-term and short-term basis.
I work with individuals across the UK aged 18 and over who are experiencing a range of issues including anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, relational difficulties, and problems relating to confidence and self -esteem.
Practice description
People come to counselling with a wide range of issues. Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed & unable to see a way through; alone with no one to share your difficulties; stressed and 'frazzled' at work; trapped or bored in your current circumstances? Struggling after a bereavement or the end of a relationship? Feeling concerned about worrying or being a burden to loved ones. You may wish to appear stronger than you feel to support them.
We are all living through unprecedented times because of the pandemic, this is unsettling for many people. With the UK starting to look at relaxing the lockdown this can add to these uncertainties. Concern for the safety of ourselves and loved ones in getting back to whatever a new 'normal' may be can lead to understandable anxiety. Uncertainty about what a new 'normal' may be and the experience of lockdown may have given people a chance to pause and time to consider what they may want for the future. You may want support with this and dealing with this uncertainty. Clearly it is important that people can still access counselling as looking after our mental and physical health are equally important.

My first session
I understand getting in contact with a counsellor can be a huge step and choosing to ask for and accept support takes a huge amount of courage.
Always remember “you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter thank you think”- A.A Milnes
If you would like to talk about whether I can help you through counselling, I would love to hear from you. Please send me an email with a brief outline of the help you feel you need. You could also call me for a brief chat to discuss the services I offer. If I am unable to answer the phone, please leave a voicemail about what you want you want help with and I will get back to you within two working days.
I will then contact you for a free 20-minute phone call where we can discuss your needs further. If you then wish to go ahead with counselling, we can then book our first session. This will include talking further about the services I offer, starting to get to know each other, agreeing how we will work together, completing any necessary paperwork and checking that therapy feels right for you.
We will then arrange regular online video or telephone sessions of up to 60 minutes each. These will cost £45 each before 6 pm on weekdays . After 6 pm weekdays or on Saturday sessions will cost £50.
I offer concessionary rates, please ask for details and we can discuss this further.
