About me and my therapy practice

Sometimes life can be overwhelming. I can help you through the lows and to make sense of things.

I work with people from all backgrounds and specialise in working with men, or women seeking to better understand difficult relationships with men.

How I work

As an 'integrative' therapist I am skilled in various areas of psychotherapy and can adapt my approach to best meet your needs.

I encourage you to lead the sessions as much as possible talking about what you feel is most important. I am also comfortable, if it is helpful to you, to direct the work a little more in the early sessions.

I work relationally which means that I believe in order to achieve lasting benefits focus must also be targeted to what happens in the room between therapist and client, in addition to past events and current struggles.

Our first session together will typically involve exploring what has brought you to therapy and a little background on what therapy usually involves. We can also discuss how to get the most out of the time together.

Practice description

How therapy works

Over time in a supportive environment you can face and discuss difficult experiences and emotions to help address your current challenges.

You can gain a better understanding of what you want and what you need, why you act in ways that hold you back and why you might be overwhelmed by certain feelings.

This can help you to develop a broader range of skills for dealing with your problems and a greater level of self-acceptance and compassion.

Choosing a therapist

Finding the right therapist can be tricky, not to mention expensive if you end up shopping around. But it is important. Research shows that finding someone you feel at ease with, who you get the sense of being able to trust and build a relationship with over time, gives better results.

My first session

I suggest that at first we meet for an introductory session (£30) where I will complete an assessment and you can ask me any questions about the therapy.

Should you wish to continue I usually suggest a further 8 sessions at the end of which we would have a review. For some people this will be enough, others may wish to continue.

I work flexibly with my clients which means we might see each other weekly, fortnightly or less frequently, depending on your preference.

What I can help with

Abuse, Anger management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Child related issues, Cultural issues, Depression, Identity issues, Infertility, Loss, Men's issues, Obsessions, OCD, Personal development, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sex-related issues, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues

Sessions from £50.00

Availability

My availability for supervision is Fridays during the day. I work online or inperson. Where possible I extend sessions to provide your monthly supervision requirement in a single session (usually 75 minutes long for £75).

About me and my therapy practice

As an experienced and certified Integrative Psychotherapist, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a diverse range of therapeutic techniques to my supervision practice. I have a Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision from the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) and I am well-equipped to provide high-quality supervision to therapists at various stages of their professional journey.

My approach to supervision is grounded in the principles of integrative psychotherapy. This enables me to tailor my supervision style to meet the unique needs of each supervisee. I believe in creating a supportive and collaborative environment, where therapists can explore, reflect, and grow in their practice.

Practice description

In supervision, I focus on empowering therapists to navigate the complexities of their practice. Common challenges that I help therapists address include:

Developing Therapeutic Skills: Enhancing intervention strategies, refining counselling techniques, and fostering a deeper understanding of different therapeutic models.

Handling Difficult Cases: Offering insights and support for managing challenging client situations, including high emotional intensity or resistance.

Professional Development: Guiding therapists in setting and achieving their career goals, whether they are new to the field or seeking advanced skill refinement.

Ethical Dilemmas: Assisting in navigating ethical concerns and maintaining professional boundaries, ensuring both client welfare and therapist integrity.

Self-Care and Burnout Prevention: Emphasising the importance of self-care, helping therapists develop strategies to maintain their well-being and prevent burnout in a demanding profession.

Reflective Practice: Encouraging a reflective approach to counselling, aiding therapists in understanding their own responses and biases, and how these impact their work.

My role is to create a supportive environment where you can openly discuss these challenges, gain new perspectives, and develop your skills confidently. I am committed to helping you grow both personally and professionally, ensuring that you provide the highest standard of care to your clients.

My first session

In our first supervision session, we will lay the groundwork for a productive and supportive supervisory relationship. Here's what you can expect:

Building Rapport: We'll focus on getting to know each other, establishing a connection that's based on trust and open communication.

Clarifying Roles and Expectations: I'll explain my role as a supervisor and we'll discuss your expectations from supervision, ensuring we're aligned from the start.

Setting Up a Contract: We'll outline a supervision contract that details our ethical guidelines, responsibilities, and the boundaries of our professional relationship.

Understanding Your Background: I'll take time to understand your professional journey, your therapeutic approach, and areas where you seek growth.

Goal Setting: Together, we'll identify your immediate needs and long-term goals for supervision, creating a clear path for your professional development.

Creating a Safe Space: It's important to me that you feel safe and comfortable to openly discuss any aspect of your work, including challenges and uncertainties.

Introduction to Supervision Methods: I'll introduce my approach to supervision, including how we'll handle case discussions and reflective practice.

Planning Future Sessions: We'll set an agenda for our upcoming meetings, including frequency and focus areas, tailored to your unique needs.

This first session is all about creating a solid foundation for our journey ahead, ensuring that you receive the support and guidance you need to thrive in your practice.
