About me and my therapy practice
At my core I am a Person-centred Counsellor following an humanistic approach. The theory is, that with the right set of conditions: empathy, honesty, and non-judgementally, in a safe place, a person is able to reconcile and mend emotionally. The counsellor client bond of trust is crucial. As a qualified counsellor I accept whatever a client brings into the room.
I have experience working with Domestic Abuse (DA) in a leading DA agency supporting woman with catastrophic life circumstances. Consequently, I have particular experience with some of the most extreme domestic violence (both physical and psychological) and long term sexual abuse cases - often resulting in Traumatic Stress Disorders, Depression and Anxiety.
As well as anxiety and depression, person-centred counselling can support bereavement, addictions, relationship difficulties, traumatic disorders, as well as trauma from historic or ongoing abuse. Nevertheless, for certain clients, some behaviours resulting from their cognition problems can also be progressed using complimentary psychotherapeutic modalities like CBT techniques.
I do not diagnose, as a counsellor I acknowledge my client’s presenting issues. And accept that we all have a natural psychological need to be a ‘fully functioning’ person. What and how this materialises is influenced by our unique past life circumstances creating sets of internal core beliefs both negative and positive that affect our everyday lives, probably without understanding how or why. The counselling process is an exploration of awareness, in a safe place without judgement. The therapist/client bond of trust enables each client to rediscover themselves - whoever that might be.
Practice description

My first session
A simple questionnaire will be sent prior to the first session for me to understand your decision to seek counselling, with a copy of my Therapy Agreement for you to read describing how each session works.
