About me and my therapy practice
I have always been profoundly curious about others and aim to foster that curiosity in my clients. I am interested in the ways that our families, culture and environment shape us and in the ways in which people create meaning in their lives. I have found again and again that counselling and psychotherapy can help people understand themselves more deeply and bring about changes which lead to more fulfilled and interesting ways of living, as well as to an improved understanding of themselves in relationship to others.
I trained at the University of Edinburgh and work as a psychodynamic therapist - this means that I am interested in how the past may impact on the present and in thinking collaboratively about the individual lens through which each of us views the world, how it serves us and how it may hinder us. I have worked with a broad range of clients, including at Pregnancy Counselling and Care Scotland, with a focus on pregnancy related issues including infertility, IVF, miscarriage and abortion and Health in Mind where I worked predominantly with clients who have experience trauma at some point in their lives. I have been in full-time private practice since 2019 and I work with clients experiencing various difficulties, from depression and anxiety to bereavement and relationship issues. I also work with people who aren't entirely sure what is "wrong" but may feel a sense of malaise or stuckness. I believe therapy can be a great way to begin to illuminate some of the deeper issues around such stuckness and begin to live with more vibrancy.
Practice description
I am able to work on both a short and long term basis, with a preference for longer term work. Often when people embark on therapy they are unsure exactly what they want to achieve - I aim to reduce any mystique around the therapy process and remain open with clients and the process we develop together.
I work from a group psychotherapy practice, A Quiet Room by the Shore, in Leith (EH6) https://aquietroom.co.uk/ I charge £60 for a 50 minute session and usually meet once weekly, at the same time and day. Please contact me for further details about accessibility.
