About me and my therapy practice
My name is Denise, I am a BACP registered psychotherapist/counsellor and clinical supervisor.
I have many years' experience working within sectors such as homelessness and probation.
I am currently working within the NHS providing therapy for people that often experience complex issues/personality disorders. These various opportunities have allowed me to gain extensive training, knowledge and an understanding of the emotional pain that often brings people into therapy.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I do understand it can be a daunting task looking for the right therapist. I believe the basis of any good therapy is a trusting and authentic relationship.
I wish you all the best in your therapy journey whether it is with me or someone else. With hard work and commitment, it can be transformative.
Practice description
While working in homelessness and the probation service I gained a BA (Hons) degree in person-centred existential counselling. My approach as an integrative psychotherapist and supervisor allows me to draw upon different modalities/theories to ensure the client receives therapy tailored to their own individual needs. I offer a safe space to understand and make sense of how things are for you now, so together we may explore a different future. Although the humanistic approach gave me a great foundation and offered a unique experience into the importance of the therapeutic relationship and how this can support a person’s journey to a more fulfilling life, I often considered a more in-depth application of therapy could bring about a more permanent change. This inspired me to continue my development as a therapist, and I then went on to study a Masters in psychodynamic psychotherapy in which I am currently in my final year. The aim of psychodynamic therapy is to bring the unconscious mind into the consciousness which will help the person to unravel their experiences and understand their true deep-rooted feelings, in order to resolve the conflict within. I specialise in addiction, trauma and personality disorder. However, I have experience working with most mental health conditions. I have also trained in Cognitive Behaviour therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour therapy (DBT), Transactional Analysis (TA) and Mindfulness.
My first session
The initial session will offer an opportunity for us to be introduced. We will explore what has brought you into therapy and your expectations of the therapeutic process. If between we decide that we can work together we will book a time and day that suites you.
Number of sessions will be up to you, some people get what they need from short term therapy which can be 6 to 12 sessions, while other people wish to engage in more long term therapy exploring themselves on a deeper level.

Practice description
After many years of my own struggles and trying to navigate the emotional turmoil of my chaotic life I made the decision to start therapy. This journey allowed me to unravel the complex emotions that kept me a prisoner in my own head for many years. Therapy set me free and allowed me to explore and understand the trauma of my childhood and the damaged inner child living inside of me as an adult. I was able to let go of my past and live a more fulfilling life. As I healed I decided to become a therapist and help people just like you. While working in homelessness and the probation service I gained a BA (Hons) degree in person-centred existential counselling. While working in homelessness and the probation service for many years I gained a BA (Hons) degree in person-centred existential counselling. During this time I created a counselling service within Essex Probation and gained a supervisor qualification.
