About me and my therapy practice
"You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection". (Siddhartha Gautama).
I offer Psychotherapy and clinical supervision and work with both individuals and couples.
(Please see my supervision listing for supervision needs)
I favour a tailored and very personal approach to sympathetically and effectively help with any issues that may be troubling you at this time in your life/lives.
My interest lies in helping people develop a sense inner strength and self evaluation that doesn't rely on changeable, outside influences and factors, but on a consistent ability to contact find peace and worth within. This often requires working on self awareness and self compassion that enables habitual, detrimental patterns to be recognised and altered. Many of these patterns and behaviours develop in early years as away of coping, but can become stuck, default settings - even when no longer needed or appropriate.
In my work with couples, I try to foster a positive atmosphere that recognises the many external and historical factors that can distort even the best of relationships. A third party can be very useful to create the firebreak often needed to be able see other alternatives and perspectives rather than be locked into adversarial cycles.
My role is always as a facilitator, and a strong emphasis is on collaboration. For positive changes to remain, they have to genuinely come from within, with belief.
Practice description
I use various methods and techniques to encourage and build clarity, inner wisdom and strength. A fusion of the latest research combined with age old knowledge are used so that both mind and body are addressed in a very tailored way that responds to the unique set of circumstances and experiences we accumulate throughout our lives.
The work could consist of looking at past events in an effort to gain an understanding of how we came to be where and who we are and 'what happened to us', as well as helping to give a voice and recognition to subconscious narratives and feelings that can work away behind the scenes, colouring our lives without us even realising it.
Greater awareness can open the door to many more, previously unseen, alternatives and paths that can be explored and maybe turned into viable and lasting positive changes. No matter what life throws at us, we each have the power to change for the better, our internal narrative and outlook. Everything that happens to us is viewed through the lens of our minds, so having our minds work for us and not against, is a very useful skill to cultivate.
Meditation and mindfulness are very effective tools to create a distance and separation from our essential selves, and negative/repetitive thoughts and painful emotions, that often follow. We are not our thoughts. It's possible to become a curious observer and not captured and entangled by them. Harmful or false Psychological structures that have accumulated as a result of our experiences can be re-shaped through acceptance and understanding.
I often combine CBT with mindfulness to enable a greater awareness of our own minds and reactions in each moment, with an ability to step to the side and create a different perspective.
I offer lovely, private, rural location and the opportunity to express anything that's concerning you without the fear of judgement.
Full disabled facilities and parking.
Please check out my website for more information.

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for me to get an understanding of what you would like from therapy. It's a chance to ask questions and generally get a feel for the process - as well as to unburden.

About me and my therapy practice
I am able to provide clinical supervision for therapists/ mental health workers and follow the supervision structure of the British Psychological Society and am also certified by them.
As a supervisor, my aim is to help those in training or new to the profession to develop their skills and provide helpful guide rails, explore ideas and to assist with ethical dilemmas where possible.
More experienced practitioners who have already developed their own style may need more in the way of support or different perspectives rather than too much developmental structure. 'Two heads being better than one' .
My aim is to build a strong supervisor/supervisee relationship that allow trust and honesty to flourish. Honouring and holding an awareness of any potential power imbalance is important, but also to be open to alternative ways of looking at things and to see constructive feedback as an opportunity.
I endeavour to respect a therapists individual style and way of working as there are many routes to the same destination...
Practice description
I'm in private practice as an accredited BACP member and a professional accredited member of the NCPS, so have good experience of what it is to be in private practice, but am equally happy to see supervisees in other areas of the field.
I help adult individual clients but I also work with couples/relationships and understand the unique challenges when working with couples that may have to be explored through supervision.
My working method is pluralistic, so I use many different models and a wide variety of issues. I find this enhances my ability to be an effective supervisor as a well rounded knowledge base and an ability to think laterally is required.
My first session
I charge the normal session fee for the first session, then perhaps reflect on how we both feel and whether the chemistry is right...
A supervisor becomes an important part of our working lives and my wish is that we have a prosperous and authentic relationship.
