About me and my therapy practice
People choose to see a counsellor or therapist for all sorts of reasons. Some people have something specific they want help dealing with; other people have a sense that something's not quite right, but can't put their finger on what that 'something' is.
Therapy and counselling can help you make sense of whatever is going on for you, within the framework of a supportive, non-judgemental and confidential relationship. It can help you gain clarity both about yourself and the situation you find yourself in, however overwhelming or confusing it may seem now. And with clarity comes greater choice, hope and the possibility of change.
I'm a qualified therapist and counsellor, drawing on a range of approaches depending on what fits best with each individual and the issues they want to address. You may have heard of some of these approaches - psychodynamic, existential, person-centred - but it doesn't matter if you haven't.
Studies show that the key to effective therapy is not your therapist's approach but rather the quality of your relationship with your therapist. That's why I encourage people to come for an initial session to see how it would be to work together before we get started.
For anyone who may find it helpful, I offer a range of art materials for creative expression. You're also welcome to bring in your own images, poems, music and dreams for us to work with.
I work with people from all walks of life, whatever their age, ethnicity, faith, cultural heritage, socioeconomic background, gender identity or sexuality.
Practice description
Sessions last up to 50 minutes and take place at the same time each week. We can agree to meet for a set number of sessions or leave it open-ended. I offer both short- and long-term therapy and counselling.
I have a limited number of reduced-fee places available for people whose circumstances mean they're unable to pay the full fee.
My first session
I always suggest meeting for an initial session so we can talk about what's going on for you, the broader context, and how therapy might help. This is also an opportunity to see what it would be like to work together and there is no obligation for us to continue working together beyond this point. I would be happy to recommend other options if it doesn't feel like a good fit.
