About me and my therapy practice

I am Sarah, a psychotherapist dedicated to supporting individuals on their journeys of self-discovery and personal growth. My practice offers a compassionate, non-judgemental space where you can explore your inner world and address the challenges you face.

Utilising an integrative therapeutic approach, I draw from various modalities to tailor our sessions to your unique needs. This flexibility allows us to address specific concerns, explore past experiences, or deepen your understanding of your thoughts and emotions.

Practice description

Throughout our lives, we develop patterns and adaptations in response to various experiences, including those from childhood, family dynamics, and significant life events. Some of these patterns are inherited transgenerationally, passed down through families, while others arise from personal experiences. In our work together, we will identify and explore these patterns to discern which align with your authentic self and which may no longer serve you. This process empowers you to make conscious choices about the behaviours and beliefs you wish to retain or transform, fostering personal growth and a deeper connection to your true essence.

My interest in psychotherapy began early in life, driven by a deep curiosity about human behaviour and the factors that shape our identities. A profoundly positive experience in my own personal therapy inspired me to train as a psychotherapist. This journey has enriched my practice, allowing me to empathise deeply with my clients and support them in their own paths to self-discovery and personal growth.

For the past 20 years, I have successfully managed a business in the arts sector. Balancing this entrepreneurial experience with my psychotherapy practice keeps me grounded and informs my therapeutic work. This dual engagement enriches both my personal and professional life. Additionally, my experience includes work within the NHS and private practice, equipping me to effectively support clients across different age groups and life stages. My background also enables me to connect well with younger clients aged 16 and above.

I believe in the Socratic principle of “Know Thyself.” Self-awareness is a continuous journey, and through our work together, I aim to help you reconnect with your true essence and navigate life with authenticity and purpose.

I’m Sarah Ryan, an experienced BACP registered therapist. I provide a supportive, non-judgmental space for your journey of self-discovery and healing.

Using an integrative approach, I draw from various therapeutic modalities to meet your unique needs. Whether you are facing specific challenges or simply seeking a space to explore your thoughts and feelings, I offer a professional environment for meaningful and effective therapeutic work.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, each with their unique stories and challenges. This experience has taught me the importance of tailoring my approach to meet the specific needs of every individual who seeks my guidance. I believe that true healing occurs when we cultivate a safe, non-judgmental space where vulnerabilities can be explored with compassion and authenticity.

My integrative approach draws from various therapeutic modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based practices, person-centred, transpersonal and psychodynamic principles. By combining these techniques, I strive to create a personalised roadmap that addresses the interconnected aspects of your mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

As a trauma-informed therapist, I understand the profound impact that adverse experiences can have on an individual's nervous system and life. With empathy and expertise, I aim to provide a supportive environment where you can process and heal from past traumas, ultimately reclaiming your sense of empowerment and resilience.

As an experienced therapist, one area I'm particularly passionate about exploring is how our attachment styles developed in childhood can influence various aspects of our adult lives. Whether it's relationship patterns, addictive tendencies, or the way we show up in the world, our early attachment experiences leave an indelible mark.

About me and my therapy practice

My goal is to guide you in breaking through long-standing patterns that may be holding you back from living a truly fulfilling and authentic life. Together, we'll work on replacing unhealthy coping mechanisms with more positive strategies that align with your core values and desires. This journey of self-discovery can be transformative, empowering you to cultivate deeper connections, achieve greater emotional freedom, and embrace your truest self.

As a neurodiversity-affirming therapist, I strive to create an inclusive and accommodating environment for neurodivergent clients.

An integral part of my therapeutic approach involves inner child healing work. I believe that many of our core wounds and limiting beliefs stem from unresolved experiences in childhood. By compassionately exploring and reparenting our inner child selves, we can begin to heal deep-rooted patterns and reclaim our innate sense of worthiness. Through guided visualization, inner child dialogues, and other experiential techniques, we'll work to identify and rematrix the root causes behind present-day struggles. This powerful process can be profoundly transformative, helping you cultivate self-love, set healthy boundaries, and step into your full authentic power.

As the founder of an established company in the art industry, I've navigated the exhilarating highs and challenging lows of entrepreneurship firsthand. This journey has imbued me with a deep understanding of the creative process, the pressures of running a business, and the importance of maintaining one's mental well-being amidst it all. Drawing from my experiences, I bring a unique perspective to my private practice, particularly when working with creative individuals and fellow entrepreneurs in the arts or related fields.

My first session

I offer a complimentary brief call or zoom of around 20 minutes ahead of potentially booking your first session - which can be seen as a trial session to assess at more depth suitability on both our sides (standard fees apply for this session).

In your initial session, the experience will vary depending on whether you’ve had therapy before. Therapy is different from typical social interactions; it doesn’t follow the usual social norms where both parties share about themselves. Instead, I focus entirely on you. I’ll introduce the structure of our therapy sessions, explaining that they are client-led. You’ll often start the sessions, directing the conversation, while I hold the expertise to guide and facilitate the process. This approach ensures that we create a therapeutic alliance that is tuned to your needs, fostering a safe and productive environment.

Session Duration and Frequency

The duration and frequency of therapy sessions can vary greatly depending on your individual needs and goals. A standard therapy session lasts 50 minutes, often referred to as a therapy hour. For some clients, therapy may be a long-term, deeply fulfilling journey that spans years, allowing for profound exploration and growth. For others, therapy might be a more focused, time-limited process aimed at addressing specific issues. There is no one-size-fits-all approach; the length and frequency of our work together are determined by what is in your best interest, your intentions, and how deeply you wish to explore your inner world. We will regularly discuss and reassess your needs and goals to ensure that our work remains aligned with your personal journey.
