About me and my therapy practice
Each of us move through a shared world that exists around us. We also have unique internal worlds that are shaped by our personal encounters with the external world. Those experiences leave their mark and influence how we think about, cope, and interact with the external world. When we are struggling with the things that exist within us, it can often feel confusing and disorienting because we don’t have the tools to address how material worlds transform our emotional and spiritual journeys. My work centres around supporting you to build this toolkit, to help you see where the personal and historical, the emotional and structural converge and move through them to a new reality.
Starting from the philosophy of Ubuntu – meaning a person is a person through other people – I will support you to become the person you want to be by providing an empathic therapeutic relationship. While it is important to nurture a support network, speaking to someone trained to be beside you as you navigate what can often be a painful journey of healing can be incredibly helpful. Unusual though it may sound, my ultimate goal will be to put myself out of a job.
Choosing the right therapist for you is an important decision to make at the beginning of this journey. If my profile resonates with you, I offer a complimentary 20-minute initial conversation for us to get to know each other better and for you to assess the vibe. It would be an honour to join you on the journey to the Self you want to meet.
Practice description
Therapy can last a long or short time after the free initial consultation. We will agree on how many sessions we will have before our first review (usually 6-10 session), but the length of therapy is always up to you.
My approach to therapeutic practice is rooted in understanding psychological distress to be the result of unequal structures of social and historical dis/order. I will help you to feel oriented first within your personal story, then those of you and your closest loved ones, and the structures that shaped those stories, before supporting you to develop the tools to take control of your future.
Sessions will take place either in person or remotely and last 60 minutes.
My hope is that one day you will feel able to take what you learn and experience in our therapy journey and apply it to both your own life and allow it to work through you in ways that change the structures that generate psychological distress.
