Practice description

The focus of this profile is to introduce how I practice as a Walk & Talk therapist. Please visit my main profile if you are not seeking this approach to counselling.

Walk and Talk Therapy, also known as eco therapy is a form of counselling/psychotherapy where confidential sessions take place outside with the client and myself walking side by side. It is also referred to as Outdoor Therapy. The pace is set by you and I match your pace. If you wish to pause or sit you are free to do so.

Objective of Walk and Talk is for us to have a counselling session. However, walking in a natural environment provides an additional therapeutic context. I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework and same rules of confidentiality as in face to face counselling sessions.

Walk and Talk Benefits include advantages to physical health by regular walks outside, along with psychological benefits of talking to a trained therapist. It has been shown to lower the levels of anxiety, stress and depression in addition to enhancing a sense of wellbeing.

Bereaved clients find being outside in the change of seasons helpful while working through the stages of grief following the loss of a loved one. Walking relieves the tension and stimulates blood flow to the brain improving problem solving and creative thinking.

Walk and Talk also has advantages for parents/carers with young children and prams. Providing flexibility for those who do not have childcare whilst seeking therapy.

My first session

We can set a time and place for the first session over the phone as I offer a free 20 min initial consultation. Please feel free to contact me via email or phone.

The first session is to set the boundaries and discuss how we can work together, as everyone has different reasons for therapy and what they wish to achieve from it.

This session is also a time for you to ask me any questions in relation to how I work, the therapeutic model I use, and to finalise payment details.
