Availability
I have availability currently on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Please note there is no availability during UK Bank Holidays or on Sundays.
Session times are between 09:00 - 20:00 and are 50 minutes in duration for a counselling or CBT session and for some EMDR sessions.
Please note, for EMDR therapy sessions you will need to book a longer session time of up to 90 minutes during the reprocessing phase and sessions, which we will discuss in your initial free telephone consultation. That said, research shows EMDR therapy can be effective quite quickly and be more cost effective when compared to other therapies. Also note, EMDR therapy can be delivered successfully online but cannot be delivered via the telephone.
About me and my therapy practice
I currently offer online and telephone therapy. I provide a choice of short -term, long-term and time limited therapy, via Teams, WhatsApp or the telephone.
Counselling and therapy sessions provide an opportunity for you to explore, in confidence, your experiences and emotions and understand yourself better. It can also help to shift old patterns formed in the past which are affecting you now, enabling you to move on and function or to feel better in yourself and relate better to others now.
I have worked successfully for a number of years, and still continue to, in a busy London based clinical practice, as a therapist supporting adults, children and young people, delivering Counselling, CBT and EMDR Therapy. I am also able to support those with neurodiversity issues such as Autism, ADHD or Dyslexia using any of these approaches.
I am successful at achieving a high rate of positive therapeutic change with clients, resulting in significant reduction in psychological distress. This is evidenced through use of a Core Form (a simple clinical measure), which is a form I use alongside talking to the client, to provide an additional means for them to give insight as to how they feel.
Counselling is a talking therapy, I use an Integrative approach. The client is able to talk about feelings and experiences to help resolve current or past issues.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a directed therapy in which the client is encouraged to identify unhelpful thoughts, feelings & behaviours and later challenge them, supported by the therapist. This can break patterns associated with anxiety and depression and is an approach which works well for these issues, particularly in young people.
EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy useful for anxiety, depression, bereavement, complex grief, emotional regulation, somatic disorders, PTSD, negative self-beliefs, pain, phobias, sexual abuse (including early childhood abuse) and trauma.
Practice description
I offer a free of charge consultation to establish what you are looking for in terms of therapy and if I am best suited to help you. You can set this up now by calling me on 07833 112718 and we can arrange a time to discuss your needs. Once you have had the free consultation with me, you can then decide whether you would like to proceed and book your first session.
Here is a testimony from a previous client who has kindly consented for me to use it anonymously for marketing.
The 20 year old female gave the following EMDR therapy testimony
" EMDR has changed my life. I suffered with unexplainable anxiety for years and could not relax my nervous system, I also had intense and frequent nightmares which was caused by being bullied throughout my childhood. In each session, Jo and I focused on memories that related to being bullied throughout my childhood which we suspected was causing the unprovoked anxiety. After around 9 sessions and 3 memories being reprocessed, I now have a new outlook on life. My anxiety has decreased significantly and so have the nightmares. This has also helped my self esteem and confidence as well as being able to create a safe space for my nervous system to calm down which has given me a newfound sense of peace. I really recommend this to anyone who is struggling as this was extremely beneficial for my mental health".
Throughout the therapy I work safely and ethically and have the client's wellbeing at the centre of it. I do a brief review during the work to check we are going in the right direction for you and that we are working on the issues you want to work on, using an approach that you relate to. I also evaluate the work at the end with you, so you can reflect on what has been helpful to take forward.
I have lots of experience of working with all kinds of people, with different issues. I assure you I will deliver an individual, professional, caring and therapeutic experience.
My first session
When you have decided to enter into counselling or therapy with me, we will then arrange your first session. This will include me making an assessment to inform the work, during which you can be assured I work with you in a professional, non-judgmental way to deliver therapy in the best way to meet your stated needs or goals. My client approach is a collaborative, client centered one and I respect and value my clients throughout our time working together.
At this stage I will send you via email some further information on what to expect, tailored to the therapeutic approach you have chosen to engage in. I will also send you a short contract for you to read and sign which lays out the boundaries of the work.
Please note my rates differ depending on the type of therapy you choose:
For Counselling the rate is £60 per 50 minute session.
For CBT the rate is £70 per 50 minute session.
